http://www.ew.com/ew/gallery/0,,20413581,00.html Yes, it has the obvious ones - Arrested Development and Firefly. [EDIT] I figured I'd add all 19 here so you don't have to go through the slideshow: Jack & Bobby (2004-05) Veronica Mars (2004-07) Ed (2000-04) Arrested Development (2003-06) Firefly (2002) Rome (2005-07) Better Off Ted (2009-10) Freaks and Geeks (1999-2000) Carnivale (2003-05) My So-Called Life (1994-95) Day Break (2006 - ABC; 2008 - TV One) Sports Night (1998-2000) The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles (1992-96) My Name is Earl (2005-09) Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip (2006-07) Moonlight (2007-08) The Unit (2006-09) Wonderfalls (2004) Action (1999) Thanks to the list I got into Better Off Ted and Veronica Mars (a very underrated and under appreciated show by the way). Next up for me is Freaks And Geeks. What sucks though is finishing a series and feeling the sadness of knowing it ended too soon, and that you won't see any more. As far as good shows not on this list that were still cut short... I've heard a few nice things about Deadwood. And I've watched Pushing Daisies and agree that it should have lasted longer than it did. Dollhouse wasn't too bad either. Can you guys vouch for any shows on this list? Or are there any other TV shows that you feel were left out?
I am tired of hearding about Freaks and Geeks and Firefly. Sportsnight was awesome at first and then it added a laugh track and jumped the shark
Freaks and Geeks is the biggest one on the list for me But how the hell was Newsradio (95-99) left off? IMO, the best comedy tv show of all time.
i dunno i keep hearing that they mite renew it like family guy although i don't really expect it. to each his own
The Clerks animated show was hysterical and short lived. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/CGbgAisf6_c?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/CGbgAisf6_c?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
Based on their rules: Dead Like Me Twin Peaks Legend of the Seeker American Dreams Seaquest St. Elsewhere Gideon's Crossing The Riches Animaniacs Undeclared Life on Mars (though the BBC version is much much better. Sidenote would be Coupling BBC version. US version was horrible, but BBC was hilarious though it did last 5 years.) I have to say I'm not sure I agree with their rules for the list though. If a show lasts for 3 seasons, can you really say it was not given a chance? Sure it may not have become one of the 5 most watches shows while it was on or last to 100 episodes or whatever. But that is basically 50 episodes (unless cable shows which are supposed to progress faster anyways.) That is more than enough time to develop a good premise and story and tell it. In fact, a lot premises for shows are not well designed or thought out enough to truly last longer than 3 seasons, causing them to have to reinvent themselves at about that time. Not many shows can do that.
You hear about them because they were awesome shows. "Freaks and Geeks" had an amazing young cast and crew, most notably Seth Rogen, Linda Cardellini, Jason Segel, James Franco, and writer/director Judd Apatow. The fact that it didn't connect with an audience does not diminish it's quality. As for "Firefly", it is the single greatest sci-fi show, and possibly show in general, I've ever seen, and I know I'm not alone in that opinion. FOX completely slaughtered any chance the show had of gaining an audience through poor advertising and airing the episodes out of order. Again, this does not diminish it's quality. "Sportsnight" has one thing in common with "Freaks and Geeks" and "Firefly": amazing talent in front of and behind the camera. The difference is, "Sportsnight" was never as good as it should have been.
It was picked up for the 2nd season. Firefly is the greatest Sci-Fi I've ever seen. Had more heart than any other show and was exceptionally clever and witty.
I liked Firefly well enough, but that hyperbole is a little thick for me. I agree also with AD and Better off Ted, though BOT was kind of hit or miss. Really need to check out FnG.
Must see: Arrested Development Firefly Rome Sports Night My Name is Earl The Unit Freaks and Geeks Good, but a notch below the above: My So-Called Life Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip
Arrested Development is the bee's knee's I still watch the seasons over and over.. never stop laughing
Sometimes it's a good thing when shows get cancelled early. When a show gets extended the later seasons often suck and ruin the whole show. At least when something's cancelled too early the audience is left with good memories of the show.
Rome and Deadwood were the two biggest for me that ended way too early. My So Called Life was also really awesome at the time.
