I was just looking at the current Rocket roster and noticed that we have 16 players. Sure, a couple may be free agents, but my question is who will be the 12 that get roster spots?

    --------------------

    Hakeem Olajuwon
    Steve Francis
    Cuttino Mobley
    Shandon Anderson
    Maurice Taylor
    Kelvin Cato
    Moochie Norris
    Carlos Rogers
    Kenny Thomas
    Walt Williams
    Bryce Drew
    Pig Miller
    Matt Bullard
    Devin Gray
    Jason Collier
    Dan Langhi

    ---------------------

Okay, I'm sure Devin Gray is gone (Geez, I hope so). It doesn't look as though Pig will be back (unfortunately). That still leaves 14 players. We could say someone will be on the IR, but who. I say Collier is the best bet to be on the year-long IR.

So, who else do we lose? Drew? Carlos? Bullard? Thomas?

My guess is that the Rockets still have at least one more deal in the works and it'll involve a two-for-one, or three-for-two swap. For who? I have no clue. But, rumors about: Brad Miller, Antawn Jamison, George Lynch (broken foot), and John Wallace have been going around.

    Devin Gray is definitely gone.

Pig Miller for some reason hasn't gotten any interest from the Rockets.

And having 14 guys is a good number. 13 leaves you shorthanded if you have multiple injuries, while 15 creates 3 unhappy players and at least one that in all likelyhood never gets off the IL.

Bullard is gone, no doubt. That leaves 13. 'Los will probably start the season on IR, or maybe KT will.

This is barring a trade, of course.

Forgot to add, if we go in with these 14 guys, Collier and Drew are my picks to start on the Injured List. However if the Rockets plans for Drew are what I said they could be in the "My Take on Drew" thread (play him to up his value for a deadline trade), Los or Langhi would be on the IL.

Bullard is not gone, no doubt. He should be on our team, he provides veteran leadership and is a gunner. Our current offense is perfect for him, if you don't believe me look back to those games he started during the season. I would be shocked if he is wearing a different jersey next season.

Bullard has nothing but a 3-point shot. He doesn't play D, doesn't rebound and has very few assists. Its time to move on. The Rockets are no longer the dump and chuck team they used to be. We don't need some high salary guy that just stands out at the 3-point line waiting for a pass so he can jack one up.

Bullard will definitely be on the team, unless he is the dealbreaker in a major trade. He is a role player, and he plays his role well.

Gotta make room for Axel Dench! Even if it is on IR. He's a perfect fit and performed well in the summer leagues. Some comments I've read on Bskball.com discussing Rudy's desire to get more beef on the bench and possibly bringing back a European project from the Olympics lead me to believe Dench at least has a shot.

    Ideally:
    Francis
    Moochie
    Anderson
    Mobley
    Walt
    Langhi
    Mo
    Kenny
    Hakeem
    Cato
    Bullard
    Collier

    IR:
    Dench
    Los

I will personally find Rudy and slap him with cooked spaghetti if he decides to place Damn Lanky on the IR. [IMG]

Dench signed with an Australian team.

Played in 1995-96 and 1996-97 with the Melbourne Tigers, and then one season in the NCAA, at the Gonzaga University (1998-00). For the 2000-01 season has been signed by the Wollogong Hawks (Australia).

DOH! Goof info, BobFinn - I don't know many people who would know that random piece of NBA news. Maybe we can bring him back in next year after Dream retires. He's just a very good fit for our team!

I read that Dench would not have been invited to the Rocket's training camp anyway. If Dench thought he had a chance to stick with this team, he would have never gone home.

I don't know why - he looked as good as our lottery (not technically lottery, but close enough) pick

Drew will most likely be traded, hopefully to an Eastern Conf. team for some scrub in the last year of his contract who we'll waive and a 2002 1st round pick.

    Grey is gone.

Pig will probably get picked up by another team. Even though he's probably more productive that Collier at this point, Rudy's not gonna push Collier to the IR.

With Langhi here, there's no need for Bullard, but Rudy will probably keep him on the IR out of loyalty, championship nostalgia..

I really hope Rogers sticks on the playing roster and gets some time....I remember him being one of the most productive players per minute on the team last year..

If we want Dench the Wollongong Hawks will let him go - or we could just buy out his miniature contract [IMG] But I don't think we need him.

Bullard is quite valuable, a veteran who can nail the three with the best of them - can't go past that!

I believe there is another trade in the works, too. I think that Williams, Drew, possibly Cato and Rogers have a good chance of being traded for 2 guys and a draft pick.

I think Bullard will be back, but Devin Gray is gone. Pig could be sign and traded in a deal where a center has to be thrown in the deal, otherwise he's gone. We might even add Tyrone Washington or Leon Smith to the roster, and stick 3 guys on IR.

    No Gray.

    No Drew.

    No Miller.

    No Rogers.

What I am wondering is, will Rudy invite Tyrone Washington and Venson Hamilton to camp.

I would only take Leon Smith if he signed a non-guaranteed multi-year (with plenty of team options) deal.

If we give him a chance, he can't act up and still get paid.

If we give him a chance, he can't do great and jump ship for more $$$.
