So far Mike James has created little evidence to support the theory that if we had him as our starter the last two seasons we would not have "wasted Yao and T-mac's prime years"...

Yes - this is the argument that was made on this board by several people who defended this stance by criticizing the Rafer Alston "lovers" as being dumb as a box of rocks. Disregard for a moment that if you had a scale with Rafer lovers and Rafer haters the haters would be in desperate need of a diet to even things out. My question is where is the Mike James of Clutchfans mythology? The man who legend says would have made all of the difference between 1st round exit and championship success?

    Sam?

    Cheers and good win tonight,
    Brock

MIKE JAMES is still effective...we're just pretty deep right now. HE WILL get his nights and he will be a Rocket SAVIOR in a good handful of games that we'll win!

So far james has been the weakest link. Tell u the truth, i rather have luther over him as the 2nd unit now. Luther's quicker, less selfish, better cutter and a better 3 pt shooter. He's ballhandling has improved too.

Poor Brocky ... took a beating the last 6-12 months and truly needs this thread/moment.

First, Mike James isn't playing the role/minutes that Rafer did last season under JVG ... or for that matter, the role Rafer is this season. Secondly, Mike James is shooting 35.8% right now. That's worse than Rafer last season. He's not getting it done. His career average is 43%. My favorite was all the people who said Mike James at 47%-44% wouldn't help us. Loved that.

But that's the difference between James and Rafer... when James shoots 35%, his supporters recognize he isn't getting it done and has to improve. When Rafer shoots 30%-20%, people such as yourself are still bidding on his jock on EBay.

Some people perhaps over exaggerated his value, but I expect James will help us this season. He played fine tonight, Rafer and Francis were just better. Certainly he could have helped us the past few years when we had no other option but Rafer. Rafer playing 25-30 minutes is fine, but 40+ minutes regardless of whether he was ice cold or not was a problem that we no longer have.

But according to Bullard, he's only a select handful in the league who can match Barbosa's speed!

Wow, why don't you wait just a bit longer until you dismiss James as an actual contributor to this team. Yes, he has been struggling as of late but I don't think that's a permanent slump. A lot of the Rockets players have been faltering lately, however, I see your point about people jumping on bandwagons when it comes to our guards. Honestly, I support all our players even as they cause me headaches and frustration. Why must we pit our players against each other???

Really. I think, again, you have me confused with someone else. But I do agree - he isn't getting it done.

I would like a list of the people you say stated that Mike James, shooting 47%-44%, wouldn't help us. I would find that an interesting - if quite short - read. But please - keep up the good work telling people to mind their manners and show respect for others as I'm sure they will follow your example.

    Later,
    Brock

Indeed. I' am not the biggest MJ fan but we will need him in stretches. He is an extremely quick guard and the defense still has to respect his shot.

Honestly I was afraid James would have slowed down since the last time he was here. I still think he can offer more than he is showing. He has to mix up his shooting and driving and look to pass to someone who has a better chance than him to score on the floor. He is a shoot first pass second guy but I think both he and Bonzi can do better than what they are doing so far.

Before it's all said and done, MJ will be an effective bench player for us. I didn't mind him coming here since we got him for nothing (Juwan). The good thing is that when he's off his game, his minutes can be dialed down. If SF keeps up the production, he will push MJ back to #3 PG on the team.

James is just in a funk. I love having him off the bench. Apart from his Toronto days, he played his best ball on Detroit's bench. We need that spark and sooner or later he will prove to be very valuable.

I think you are misunderstanding me. I've always stated that while I don't like Mike James as a starter for this team I like him on the team. The difference of opinion arises when people stated that having him instead of Rafer would have made all the difference in previous years.

I simply don't believe that trading one for the other was the answer while others - such as the mighty Clutch - have continuously stated otherwise.

    Cheers,
    Brock

I don't think it really matters. It seems like Adelman is willing at times to play 2 or even 3 of those those guys together. It's just a function of who is playing well and who we are playing against.

Considering that people around here probably prefer Osama Bin-Laden and John Wayne Gacy to Rafer, I think you are overstating the level of his support.

I agree that we need his scoring off of the bench and that he is valuable. However I'm a bit concerned if his best ball was off of the bench in Detroit with his 19.7 minutes a game, 2.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1 steal, 1.58 turnovers, and 6.3 points per game.

Maybe you meant the playoff games where he averaged 8.9 minutes, under 40% fg%, 1.2 rebounds, 1.1 assits, .2 steals, .68 turnovers and 2.6 points a game?

Oh well... I'm dumb as a box of rocks anyways so what do I know?
