In honor of Hakeem Olajuwon being voted into the Hall of Fame, Lance Zierlein's morning show on 1560 on Wednesday is going to be dedicated to Hakeem.

Rockets announcer Bill Worrell is on at 7:30am. I will be on at 9:15am for about half an hour. Former Rockets GM Carroll Dawson will be on at the end of the 9am hour.

We'll talk some current Rockets too but will also be talking about Dream. I'd love to hear your Hakeem stories if you got them -- you can call the live show at 713-439-1560.

If you're not local, you can listen to the show at their website 1560thegame.com.

Hakeem won't be on, but I did just learn that Jeff Van Gundy and Reid Gettys (played with Hakeem at UH) will be on... so it should be full of Rockets/Hakeem guests.

remeber when some group used to donate fifty dollars to some youth fund. and every time he blocked a shot, calvin murphy would say "there's another fifty dollars to the ....youth fund"

I remember one game he blocked three shots in a row, and calvin was like "another fifty, another fif, another fifty dollars"

    Memories:

Hakeem popping Dave Feitl for not giving Dream his "change".

Hakeem chasing down both Rod Strickland and Kevin Johnson on breakaways in the playoffs and stuffing them.

Akeem's 1987 playoff double OT loss performance against Seattle (one of his most purely dominating performances). Clutch, this never gets talked about. Would love to hear it get some run (maybe this is something that can be brought up with Carroll Dawson since he was there).

Hakeem's 2 quadruple doubles (v. Milwaukee and Golden State).

    Hey Clutch,
you know in ancient times people would sacrifice people for the Gods.
Could we ban the people here who don't like Hakeem or this Shaq was better as a gift to God? or hell just ban them for the rest of the month since its the Dream Hall of Fame month.
or we can just use them to make some award winning Texas chili !

My great Hakeem memories that aren't from the 94-95 playoffs:

    1. Hakeem chasing down Strickland and Johnson for the swats
    2. Dream swatting Jordan during the "Star Wars" game, and Jordan coming up holding his shoulder and grimacing
    3. The Hakeem highlight mix with Kool Moe Dee's "How Ya Like Me Now?"
    4. Dream with the spin move around Ewing and then the dunk (you know which one I'm talking about!)
    5. Hakeem dropping Stockton with an elbow and then pointing at him and telling him "don't ever do that again," (after Stockton ran through the paint and elbowed him in the ribs)
    6. Dream swatting shots and Worrell talkin' bout: "Return to sender! Address unknown!!"
    7. Dream's super drop step where he'd toss the ball behind the defender and then spin baseline after the ball leaving his defender totally undressed
    8. Dream's fights early in his career, almost seems like a totally different dude
    9. One time Dream slapped the rejected "Big Country" Reevs and Big Country looked for the foul and was crying to the refs in his dirty twang: "Ah know he is the man, but c'mown!" :)
    10. Dream's move where he'd post up on the right block, move across the lane, fake left, then spin right. He toasted a ton of defenders with that one. He did it in Utah once and even their crowd said, 'OOhhhhhh!!!"Even Othella Harrington learned how to do it.

Man, I could go on and on! Congrats to the greatest Rocket of all time!

Actually its only one. He only had 9 assists against GS.

Hakeem Olajuwon, March 3, 1990, Houston vs. Golden State; 29 points, 18 rebounds, 9 assists, 11 blocks

As I recall, the box score read 10 assists, but the NBA reviewed it and ended up taking one away, meaning the Milwaukee game was his only "official" Quadruple Double.

Still with the 5 steals, thats one of the most ridiculous stat lines in modern NBA History.
