They talked about Landry. They want to sign him to a multi-year deal. He shouldn't be out too much longer. I think they said he'll try to play on Sunday. Not sure about tonight. They talked about if JVG was the coach, Landry wouldn't of made it in the line up. Morey said he does believe JVG would of given him a chance to play He thinks Danny Agie is going to win executive of the year this year. He talked about how the Rockets this year would have to play harder this year coming down the stretch compared to other years where they can rest players. He doesn't care for people saying the team is better without Yao. This year the role players have step up this year. They talked about how they really missed Yao when they were in Atlanta. They asked Morey what are the Rockets going to do when Tracy isn't making his shots. Morey said they are going to miss Yao dearly in the playoffs. Morey said they were trying to upgrade the PG spot in the off season. Rafer has shown a lot this year by working hard and on his shooting.
Thank you very much. It's good to hear Landry's gonna try on Sunday. Morey, you know that perfectly that Landry wouldn't play under JVG, Hayes would be 2nd option at pf stop. BTW: I like Novak and I'm glad Adelman gives him the chance to play especially when we are not makin' shoots.
I like the idea of upgrading our PG spot next season. We also need a backup C if Deke doesn't return, prefferably a young guy who needs time to develop. Mainly, I hope Gerald Green, Justin Williams and Aaron Brooks all practice hard this year, work even harder in the summer, and come to camp looking to fill backup spots at C, swingman and point. If that happens, we have an expiring contract to toy with (BJaxx) as well as the MLE. But those 3 young guys would be great if they work hard on their game this offseason having Adelman's system in mind. I hope Justin picks stuff up from Deke, Green from Mac and Battier, and Brooks from BJaxx maybe. I love it. We're going to be young and VERY deep next year if we use our MLE on a couple of players.
If Morey can pull off another off season like last, man . Last year PF was weak, but PF is set now with Scola Landry and Hayes. If he manages to steal or draft players to shore up the PG spot next year, rockets would totally dominate!
We'll have more than just Bobby Jackson expiring. Francis will be picking up his player option this year so next season he'll be an expiring too. Luther is also an expiring, and we have one more I believe. In total I know it's 11 million dollars in expiring contracts. That's enough to make a BIG SPLASH next trade deadline.
it doesnt look like green is going to end up anywhere, which is mind boggling to me and sad. i just dont understand what circumstances would lead to a kid with that much athleticism and that nice of a shot not getting any minutes, much less even being on a roster. i thought he would've been an ideal backup off the bench for tmac because he can create his own shot and shoots very well from 3 pt range and the FT line. its not like he doesn't have skills; he's a much better scoring option than bobby jackson off the bench. even if he's the bonehead he's made out to be, he'd be good for 5 minutes here and there to go out and get a couple points in the timespan that tmac needs to rest and the team normally just falls apart.
sorry, but Im pretty sure Morey knows VG better than you or any of us do. There has NEVER been a documented case of JVG not playing younger players who deserved time. and no, Boki and Spanginaman dont count. (and Novak didnt deserve a lot of time till this year, when he quit looking like a deer in the headlights) By all accounts, Landry works VERY hard in practice which is where you show JVG that you deserve court time, and then he would have done the same he does now on the court and he would have been in the rotation. HE is not a stupid man, he is not going to sit a player who could help them win. any other theory doesnt hold to logic or known facts about the man.
i doubt that we use the MLE at all. we're close to the LT and deep enough. i can see them signing a vet C to the min just as insurance. deke would be the first choice but if he retires then there is allwys ratliff, dale davis, etc... someone that doesn't mind keeping the bench warm on most nights. as for trading bjaxx/steve for an upgrade, i don't think we have to wait for the deadline. the grizz are still looking to cut salary in order to better sell the team. i think we can bring in mike miller this summer.
Of course Jeff is not stupid but he has never likes young players. JVG's era is over so we can't be sure what would have Jeff done in this position.
JVG would be a hell of defensive coordinate for the rockets if he is willing! Can you imagine a coaching team of Rick and Jeff!
i agree that van gundy would've given landry a shot, but i believe he wouldn't get as many shots as he would under adelman. same goes for brooks, and even novak. and that proposition certainly does hold up to logic, because early in the year adelman gave all these kids spot minutes and none of them shined particularly well. novak STILL had that deer in the headlights look and caused many of us to call him a bust. this is where adelman and van gundy differ in my opinion; both are willing to give players the initial shot, but adelman is more willing to let players redeem themselves. its a matter of degree in terms of opportunity to prove your worth. it is possible that novak became better and more confident on his own, thus forcing adelman's hand, but it is far more likely that adelman's confidence in him has allowed him to be more assertive. this is not to say that i think van gundy ripped novak a new one if he made the smallest mistake, but adelman definitely has a way with making his players confident. certainly we never heard van gundy say a thing like 'when you have a talent like he does, you have to find a way to get him on the floor" about novak.
that is not the argument you were repeating the myth that has been debunked no less than 5 times in this very forum. it has NEVER stood up to scrutiny. Like I said, Morey so far has shown he tells it like it is, and he says that VG would have given him time...who do we believe? a bunch of biased fans or the GM of the team? I go with the GM.
I have never heard such BULL spoken on this Forum! JVG had an inborn dislike of Rookies and just hated to have to go through the transition period of them adapting to the NBA. JVG much prefered having cheap experienced vets, preferably known by him, to come in and bolster his stars. He even prefered these players over talent as talent must be catered to and the game plan reorganised to include their individual talents. I even believe that Scola would not even make the starting line up as he loved Chuck Hayes and his effort and hustle over talent. JVG was a strong minded defensive type coach who ruled with a closed mind, his thinking was, my way or no way, just look to Bonzi for example.
there's absolutely no way you can say that van gundy wouldn't have given these rookies the same chance adelman has.
Really, I don't care what JVG would have done here. Adelman is the coach and it is on him to make his rotation. Im still not so sure that Van Gundy would have used Landry. But does it really matter?
