15 years in a US prison or 1 year in a Mexican prison?

    A friend of mine (who is Mexican and has a family member in a Mexican prison) posed this question to me on Friday.

    I'd lean toward the 15 years in a US prison cell. Not really a hard decision.

    Probably wouldn't survive in either one...

    Is he young and of small size? If so, I would think one year ass rape in Mexico is better than 15 years of ass rape in the US. Plus, one year in Mexico probably is a petty crime that they won't throw you into a jail full of ass rapists.

    If the prison is anything like Shawshank Redemption, then I'll take 15 years in US

    My friend told me that his cousin was branded by a cattle brand the first week he was locked up. He said the guards are just as bad as the inmates.

    Put me down for 1 year in a mexican prison.

    - Mexican prisons are more leniant than US prisons. Family can visit and bring you food.

    - With enough cash you can buy protection (at a cheaper price than US) from inmates or cartels.

    - I speak spanish so I don;t have to worry about joinging a gang based on race.

    - Gaurds can easily be bought.

    Many Mexican prisons have no running water, no AC (obviously -- Texas prisons don't have this), lots of roaches, total filth, no privacy, no security from other inmates, etc. Not a pretty place. The guards/police will milk you for all they can.

    Good - I'd pay up and do my 1 year, better than being incarcerated in the US for 15 long hard years.

    15 years or 1, granted that I dont get raped and murdered in the prisons of Mexico I would do the 1 year

    Depends on what kind of prison in the US. I think I would take 15 at a minimum security facility, but I would go for the 1 in Mexico over 15 in one of the rougher American prisons.

    15 years is a monster chunk of your life. You'll lose a chance to live, raise a family, do your career, whatever. After 1 year, no matter how painful, at least you'll have your life back.

    I'd take Mexico.

    This queston is a no brainer.

    1 yr in Mexico.

    1) I can bribe the crap out of the guards and live like a drug lord.
    2) No US prison record upon release
    3) 14 years is a long time to be in a box
