On ESPN.com's Draft section (left rail) Andy Katz reported... "The talk of Bostjan Nachbar going to the Wizards at No. 11 is legit. Washington is seriously considering Nachbar if a top choice like Jeffries is gone. " I think there is a pretty good chance that Jared Jeffries goes before #11 so with that said perhaps Nachbar is gone before #15. From what I have read about Nachbar I always thought he would be a good pickup for the Rockets. Now it appears that he might not even be available when we select. If Stoudamire or Nachbar are not there at #15 I wonder who is next on the Rockets board? Tayshan Prince? Wouldn't he be a reach at #15? Any thoughts? The Rockets working out Wilcox and Hilario (and their love for Stoudamire) has got me wondering if the Rockets are going to make a serious run at trading up into the lottery. But my guess is that the Rockets would like Nachbar at #15 (good value there) but would not "trade up" to grab him. Chris
If neither Nachbar nor Stoudamire on the board at 15, someone ahead of them must be dropping. Perhaps Woods, Borchardt or Kareem Rush. That will give the Rockets a chance to grab any of them to keep or may be trade later.
I've been saying this for a couple of weeks now... The guy is the real deal and can come in and help a lot quicker than Woods... Even if the Wizards don't take him I still don't think he'll make it to the 15th spot. I hope he's there but we got to start looking at alternatives... The rockets seem to be impressed with Amare. He doesn't help us at the three but he's probably to much of a talent to pass up... Prince is stll another option.
I think the key is Mil and Ind. Almost every mock that I have seen that has Amare or Nachbar at 15, has Mil taking Ely/Haslip or Ind taking Rush. Let's say neither of these happen, so here is who is gone (not necessarily in order). Ming, J. Williams, Dunleavy, Gooden, Tskitishvilli, Butler, Wilcox, Hilario, Jeffries, Borchardt, Wagner, Stoudemire, Nachbar, Woods This leaves us with a choice of Rush, Welsch, Ely, F. Williams and Haslip. I am not real thrilled with any of these. If it comes to this on draft day and they are not able to move up, I am not against a trade down. Maybe down to 25 and get a future pick from the Nuggets.
DFW, I TOTALLY agree! Many mocks have Ely/Haslip and Rush going before the Rockets, if that does not happen then that group of players you list "Rush, Welsch, Ely, F. Williams and Haslip" to me is not too exciting. Rush and Welsch aren't too bad and can be decent bench role players but I think we would be mildly disappointed. With #15 to me there are TWO possibilities that either one will make us happy. We either "fill a need" at SF or draft a player with "major upside." And in these cases I am talking about Nachbar and Stoudamire. Chris Chris
Hey DFW, do you watch the Rockets up in Dallas? I live in Dallas also, but don't see squat of them this season (not like I wanted to w/ their crappy season). Where do you go watch the games? Or did you have the NBA Season Pass?
The only way Nachbar goes to Washington is if BOTH Woods and Jefferies are gone which I don't think will happen. Actually, on the other hand it might happen because the Suns are said to be pretty high on Jefferies and the Heat are supposedly high on Woods. So i guess it could happen. In which case I think we should take Welsch. I don't really see the point to taking another pf unless we are going to trade him since we've got 3 pretty good pf's and one that is supposed to become great.
I keep saying it but if we end up with Woods that is not a bad thing this guy can develop give him one year he has too many skills to not become good. I am sure that when he sees Steve and Cat doing their thing he will start to play hard too. Remember there were some concerns about EG, but Steve and Cat had a good influence on him read his diary in the Rockets site.
I too did not get to see many Rockets games. My supervisor at work is a Rockets Fan and he has NBA Season Pass. If there was a game I really wanted to see, I would head over there. Maybe we can get a group to go see them next year when they play the Mavericks.
From one DFW Rockets fan to another....NBA Season Pass is the only way to go. Duece, If Ely, Haslip and Rush are all gone before the Rockets pick then I think that would be a pretty good sign that either Hallario, Stoudemire or one of our target small forwards will still be on the board. Then I think we would have a very succesfull draft.
