... that's how far the free throw line is from the backboard..

    8..
that's the number of freethrows we missed

    68..
that's our percentage from the FT line today

    50..
that's Tmac's percentage from the FT line today

    83..
that's how many shots out of a hundred Carlos Boozer shot in order to fix his FT shooting..

    1.5
that's how many hours before practice ugly Boozer came in to practice his FT

    100..
    that's Boozer's FT percentage today..

a team that shoots lower than 70% from the freethrow line, with your superstar shooting guard shooting 50%, will never win.. we don't have a Shaq, we don't have a Ben Wallace, we just suck at freethrows, and that's why we keep losing.. I mean, 4 of 8 for Tmac? are you kidding me? it's not like he caught a bad break, this has been going on for freakin' ever.. this is just unbelievable... It makes see how much each respective team wants to win.. Boozer goes to the gym 2 hours before practice to shoot freethrows, and my idol, my favorite player, the guy whose on a poster in my room, whose home and away jerseys are in my closet, shoots 4 of 8..

we're talking free throws, not a jumpshot, not a three, not a fadeaway, we're talking free throws..

oh. my. gawd.. watching the Rockets lose makes my life miserable..

Sometimes its not about the technique.. Some guys just aren't comfortable out there in front of everyone shooting FTs. And you can't simulate game situations. :(

Stop making excuses. It's all about how much you want it. You're not born knowing how to shoot a free-throw, you have to practice at it. What you put in, is what you get out of it. I agree with the thread starter.

i remember we had that thread about tmac's mechancism on free throws. i said it was all on the head.

now, i'm gonna say it's either one of these 2 things.

    1. choke job
    2. they just suk at free throws.

i'm leanin on 50% on both.

McGrady's FT shooting problem is in his release. It's been the same jerky release since the start of the season. He is putting too much pressure on his shooting hand with his off hand instead of just cupping the basketball and balancing it with his side hand. It's all in his release and it hasn't been corrected the whole durn season. Disgusting!

We've been a bad free throw shooting team ever since our best free throw shooter (OUR CENTER) went out. If we hadn't fixed it by the playoffs, it's not gonna chnage between games in the playoffs. I can forgive a guy like Chuck Hayes who never takes a shot outside 8 feet missing free throws...but it makes no sense how guards like T-Mac who have such a sweet stroke can miss so many freebies. He's not the only one, but this team cannot afford to give away free points when we're already so offensively challenged.

I really don't care what it is.. whether it's depth perception, aliens in the crowds, or voodoo dolls..

all I know is, a *SHOOTING* GUARD who shoots 4-8 from the FT line in any game just doesn't belong in the NBA..

that's not mentioning that he is your "superstar" and "best player" on the team..

free throw averages for the entire NBA have been relatively constant the past 20 years, before someone says "todays players dont practice their __"

Still, I dont know why its not stressed more. Its POINTS ON THE SCOREBOARD.

Thats arguably just as important as practicing set plays and emphasing driving to the basket.

OMG. If TMAC wanted to be a leader, HE MUST BECOME A BETTER FT SHOOTER. BOOZER is a LEADER, TMAC must be too hurt to be a leader.

    Again,

    1. Couldn't get a REBOUND when it matter. Where was Deke, Loren, Scola. All our big men should have been there when D. Williams missed those layups?

    2. T-Mac ONE, I REPEAT ... ONE attempt in the fourth quarter!!!!!

    That's the game.

15 feet is the whole problem.

Make it 20 feet, fading away, and you'd see McGrady hitting those freebies at a much higher percentage.

first off landry had that rebound. t-mac just tipped it away. secondly coaches can't make players practice ft's. players get paid to be proffessionals and they should practice themselves. if they still cant get it then they can only blame themselves.

Times like these, I cry because we don't have Yao. Doesn't his familiar face give you a reassuring mental attitude? Sigh....
