Kenyon Martin seems to think so (at least according to this article in the chronic: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2001946 And I quote: "As the Nets' second star behind Kidd the past two seasons, Martin said he deserved a maximum contract, one that will be worth about $85 million to $90 million for six years. "I want my due," Martin said Thursday, appearing on behalf of Reebok, signing autographs at a Foot Locker in Manhattan. " Now is it just me or shouldn't max extension be for first tier stars and not "second stars behind" someone else?
McGrady signed the max before he began to post the numbers he posts nowadays. It's all about what he can bring in the future, and if you had payed attention to the latter parts of the season, Martin showed highlights of a very solid PF, probably deserving of a someday, anyways.
Not really. McGrady showed crazy potential, but Martin still has a questionable jumper, is a tweener, can't see the floor for **** & only has 1 post up move (jump hook over the left shoulder). Without his phenomonal (sp?) hustle, he wouldn't even have half a case.
Martin come out of college as a senior, having proven all he could. The only improvement he's shown in the NBA is in becoming a little more consistent. He's absolutely crazy if he thinks the Nets - or any other team - will give him a max contract, because he's not worth it at all.
Kenyon freakin Martin would barely be a role player if he didn't have Kidd. And would stink more then garbage if he somehow ended up in the Western Conference. His hustle and thuginess might work with the weak ass power forwards of the East, but if he had to go against the likes of Duncan, Garnett, Rasheed, Webber, etc. every night he would get his ass exposed.
