Well the fact that he gets 20 years for sodomy, which by no means should be against the law in the first place, seems pretty unfair to me.
i'm not sure whether i feel sorry for this kid or not after what he did, but imagine being locked away in a prison from the age of 13 for at least over half of a century ... the future sure looks rather hopeless.
Surely this has to be appealed. I'm all for harsh punishment for violent crimes, but this is getting a little ridiculous. Nothing like going to jail while in middle school, and being eligible for parole around the age of retirement.
Truly heinous attack but without knowing more about the case its hard to say whether the 13 year old is considered as someone who could be possibly reformed. I would hope so and see him have the opportunity for parole but I would want to know more. I did find this part of the article disturbing too. Its terrible this happened to the 6 year old but should a judge be deciding what sentencing should be based on a 6 year old?
well, i can't imagine any normal 13 year old would do anything like that. we all do stupid things, but i doubt anyone would do crazy things like that. i can't imagine how will the 6 year old grow up and feel like if the dude is out there. she has to be terrified. i don't know. 60 years are a bit too harsh. but, he can't just get away with it. i say, hard labor for 60 years, at least he'll be productive.
I don't think the victim is 6 years old anymore. It seems like the story implies this happened some time ago.
November 2005. So the judge is basing the sentencing on the opinion of an 8-year-old. I agree with rocketsjudoka, without knowing more details, it's impossible to tell whether this sentence is extreme. The crime itself certainly warrants a 60-year sentence, if the teen weren't able to be rehabilitated. Personally, I'd rather see the possibility for parole in 20-ish years, with the condition that the perpertrator shows significant signs of rehabilitation.
What about the babysitter? Did she just toss the girl out of her car and drive away? How do you not walk a 6 year old girl to the door and make sure she gets inside? Hell, I do that with everybody regardless of age.
I'm of the philosophy that the act determines whether someone can be reformed regardless of age. IMHO sexual crimes are not reformable.
There is a component to this case that the story is missing -- there is a strong reason I would surmise - that the judge felt this boy was a serious future threat to society. Level of violence, lack of remorse, etc.
you can't give a thirteen year old sixty years, I don't care how unremorseful he is. I don't care how much you think he is unable to be rehabilitated. that's a ridiculous sentence for a thirteen year old. I can't even believe some of you guys actually are considering this. Do you realize how long even ten, or twenty years is?
yeah, why don't we just execute him. I mean, if you think any sentence is too harsh, then you obviously feel sorry him.
If only he had been a Female Teacher. . . .esp a 'HOT' one . . .. he could have gotten off Rocket River
