I figured I start a thread to keep a track of all the dumb and funny quotes by our favorite commentator Clyde! When a ball clearly hits the rim and he exclaims "Nothing but net!" To paraphrase...'it often comes down to which team makes the baskets'. When he does his Deke impersonation once a game: Not in my house! "That's called, domination" "That's called, taking it to the hole" "That's called, setting a pick" Bill: Now the Spurs are really showing their depth. Clyde: They have a deeep bench! "There's Yao with the quick spin, and OHHH. He's unstoppable Bill! They have no answer for the great wall." "Such a variety of moves on the low block." "What a phenomenal talent. He's just the consumate professional. Giving it all he has night in and night out."
When talking about Dick Bavetta one game Clyde said "I love big...Nick" It was pretty funny to hear him not say Dick's real name there.
On Rafer: "Remember, he was my sleeper pick for the all star team this year... Ant that's why I think next year will be his year."
I usually listen to every game on 610 radio, except the rare times when they are on ch 51, and I love Clyde, but as an announcer he is an abomination, he is terrible, there is no other way to put it. I miss Calvin sooooooooo much.......
"how many seven foot six guys do you know with a left hand like that?" yeah clyde let me go ask my 5 friends all of whom are 7'6 if they have a left hand
The "nothing but net" comments are my favorites. The ball may bounce on the rim or rattle around the cylinder for seconds, but it is still "nothing but net."
"That was a thorough shalacking put on the Lakers tonite" or something to that affect.... after Lutha put up a monster slam to punctuate the night.
This is a great thread! I was gonna use the "Rafer is one of the best point guards in the league," but I sort of got beat to it. Have you guys noticed that lately Worrell is starting to take a good-natured dig at some of Clyde's comments. I remember him saying "Ya think?!" after Clyde said something really obvious the other day. Then they both laughed.
Tonight when Head bounced the ball off the backboard for a Snyder dunk: "The bank is open tonight!" No Clyde...that was not a bank shot. EDIT: I forgot the other gem from tonight: "Melvin Ely has a STRONG post-up game."
