I'm not in Houston right now, I'm in Arizona for school... But if I was in Houston, I sure as hell would have gone to the game... What the hell has happened to the Rockets fan support???? Didn't last April provide any kind of excitement for you guys???? Damn, we don't deserve a basketball team... Let's get with the program guys ------------------
Nice attitude. You know, tonight is Halloween. Fans in Houston have always been like this. If the Rockets start winning, those numbers will change. ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
Why is it that we make excuses for poor attendance??? How many 10 year old kids are there at Rocket games? Like 10% of the crowd?? The Hawks got 18,000... They don't have Halloween in the ATL I guess... ------------------ [This message has been edited by kidrock8 (edited October 31, 2000).]
"10 year old kids".... I go tric-or-treating. That's why I didn't go to the game...(by the way I am way older than 10 yrs old). ------------------ ------------------ Hakeem: "Exit Suugar Lan" [This message has been edited by WizzyWig (edited October 31, 2000).]
I don't think there is any excuse for such a small turnout, either. Even the Sad-Sack Mavs could manage to draw 16,600 fans. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
Why do we care what the attendance was? What difference does it make to any of us who didn't go anyway? Hell, what difference did it make to those who went? Wasn't the game just as fun and interesting with 12,000 as it would've been with 16,000? Or, are the fans that essential to the game itself? ------------------ Save Our Rockets and Comets SaveOurRockets.com
I think halloween was a huge factor in attendance...It seems to me that if kids go trick-or-treating they are usually accompanied by an adult or two - so tack on some more numbers to the "10 percent" 10 year old kid crowd...Plus, alot of the college crowd is probably going to party it up tonight... ------------------
It's a bragging rights thing. Plus, low attendance can make the city look bad. I think it'll pick up this season, and by the time the new arena opens up, I'm sure the team will be far along on a new multi-season sell-out streak. ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
I think it has to do with putting the game on broadcast television. Two options: 1) go to the game or 2) go trick-or-treating and watch the game on TV while doing other things (HW etc...) ------------------
I think people just have so much New Arena Fever that they are down on the whole idea of just going to the Compaq Center again. Seeing those great renderings of the New Arena make me want to go there now. And we were all spoiled with Enron Field. (Speaking of, people actually might have fewer dollars to spend on sports tickets this year. There were more Astros tickets sold this year and many fans have been spending money for PSLs for the Texans. That could be a contributing factor as to why some people are more choosy with their Rockets' tickets purchases. It's just a theory). ------------------ Houston Sports Board The Anti-Bud Adams Page
I don't want to be down on the city's fans, but we need to show the team that we love them and support them... If we want a guy like Chris Webber or some other big name to play here, let's give him another reason why! ------------------
DId you watch any of the other televised games? There wasn't really strong attendance in any of the others I saw. Even the Portland game had a few empties. ------------------ There is a very fine line between "hobby" and "mental illness." [This message has been edited by HOOP-T (edited November 01, 2000).]
Hey I was there!!! Anyway, I believe the fan support will pick up. C'mon, it was holiday... I'm sure that had alot to do with the low attendance. What was last years opening game attendance??? ------------------ RAWW Paid for by the Frudy T. Gin and Juice Daquari Factory.
I was there too. And its a shame to see the people pay more attention to that stupid Clutch Bear throwing silly string on people than to watch the Rockets.
It may not matter what we think about the attendance, but I guarantee it means a lot to the players. And the fact that it was probably Dream's last opening night, and the night that he (along with Stockton) set the NBA record for most years with the team makes 11,000 horrendous and unforgivable. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
RM95, I understand what you are saying, but I'm not sure that I agree. What matters most to the players, IMHO, are the phat paychecks they get for playing a damn game. ------------------ I am the b*stard son of LHutz. Huh? Right!
I've said it once and I will say it again next to Los Angeles and Oakland Houston has the worst fans! Its a joke that we can't get 16,000 fans to fill up that stadium. Houston has always had this problem and it just makes me sick, when Art Modell said to Clevland that he was moving the Browns to Baltimore the fans were outraged, but they still came to the games, they even went as far as to petition for an expansion team themselves, they even sued for the rights of the Browns name back. What did Houston do when the Oilers said they were leaving? Not a damn thing. I'm sorry Jeff but its a huge difference when there are fans in the seats to when there ain't. When it comes to sports I feel like Houston is a crappy town. I live in the Silicon Valley now and I consider my self a huge Rockets fan some what did I do I got season tickets to the Warriors. Now I know everyone can't afford season tix but I'm pretty sure that the Rockets have package deals starting around $100, in Oakland they start around $45 for three games and food. So if we can't sell out our own arena why the hell do we deserve a new one??? I'm all for a new arena but we really need to sell this one out. We have the most exciting team in the league, hell even when we were good they weren't this exciting. The electricity of our guards alone should sell out the games. If I go to Warrior games then Houstonians HAVE to go to Rockets games. Sorry for the rant but I love H-town and it pains me to see them in such a bad way. ------------------ "We need to fockass".....Dream back in the day

There is NO WAY IN HELL there were 18,000 people at the Hawks game last night. Those seats are paid for so they are counted whether any one is in them or not. I watched some of the Hawk game (it wasn't pretty) it looked like a freakin Houston Oiler game the year before they left. ------------------ In order to be a success in life, you need 2 things: 1. Yeah, it's just like the last two UT games at DKR. They announced 82-83,000 for both games when there is no way in hell there were more than 65,000. Also, no way in hell 11,327 people were there last night. I'd bet 9,000. ------------------ When you make an assumption, you make an ass out of yourself and umption. visit www.swirve.com
