    I was discussing this with the admins, specifically Castor27, and I think we're overdue to expand the forums a bit, starting with creating a forum for football.

    There are three main discussion points for "football" threads, likely in the order below of highest interest:

    1. Houston Texans
    2. NFL
    3. College Football

    My original plan was to take Texans out of the "Houston Sports" forum and NFL out of the Hangout and form a new "NFL + Houston Texans" forum (then possibly create a "MLB + Houston Astros" forum).

    But Castor27 brought up college football and that's a good point. We could combine it to be an all-encompassing "football" forum, or combine NFL+college and leave the Texans where they are.

    Curious your thoughts on what you would like to see...

    If I could, I might suggest a fourth section for "other football" (high school football, arena football, foreign football, etc.)

    I think a combined NFL/College FB would be great. I'm not sure if there are enough topics out there to justify two separate forums. Perhaps the creation of separate forums might lead to an increased number of threads, I don't know.

    Thanks. That's true also... but what I'm proposing is just one new forum, so we'd probably include those topics in there as well. High school would probably get some threads... American soccer ("futbol") would probably remain here (I would think).

    Thanks, thelasik. In that scenario you propose, I would assume #1 is the existing "Texans/Astros" forum (keep it the same) and the new forum (#2) is NFL and College minus the Texans (much like how the "NBA Dish" is the NBA minus the Rockets).

    I would either leave it the way it is or create the all encompassing Football section (Texans, NFL, and College) as you suggested.


    My question would then be, what would happen to the "Houston Sports" section? Would that be exclusively for the Astros, Dynamo, etc?

    I dont think there's enough football discussion to seperate the texans and the NFL. Does the board reallty need a houston sports forum? I'd have general football and baseball forums. Any other sports talk can go in the hangout.

    Make a dedicated Football forum, and a dedicated Baseball forum. And then the rest of the sports just gets left behind in the "other" section. :p

    Understood. I like the idea of a separate, football forum.

    I kinda disagree with you on this. I'm not a fan of and don't like college football. I think there are a gajillion college football fans and having their thread intertwined with NFL threads would be a mess.

    I would simply recommend moving the generic NFL and college football threads into the current Texans/Astros forum. If you took the Texans out of that forum, you just have the Astros for the most part, and that's a pretty dead forum for half the year. Since football season and Astros season don't really conflict too much, I think they could be shared. That forum isn't overly used as-is anyway - going to the 3rd page, you have threads with the latest post in September (compare this to the hangout, where the 3rd page takes you to yesterday, or the D&D where the 3rd page is October 13th).

    In general, if you have too many different sections people need to visit, I think you lose people who have some interest but not a lot of interest in a particular topic. Where possible, I'd try to keep the total number of different boards down if possible.

    In that scenario, yeah... but I think doing the same thing with "Baseball" would be the logical next step (as it got closer to Spring Training). That would then leave MLS/Dynamo, if there's enough interest.

    I definitely don't want to split forums up too much... I like the activity and solid discussions. But then, I also like to talk about specific games -- threads like "NFL Week 6" are cool, but they're fairly broad too. A dedicated forum could get more specific with threads without competing with the regular Hangout topics.

    I'm only thinking about one new forum... I'm not sure about 4 dedicated forums for Texans, Astros, football and baseball... but if there was enough interest, we'd do it.

    I like this idea best. Keep Houston sports together as its own forum, but create a separate area for NFL/College football.

    Or, instead of NFL/College football, you could make it some sort of "All other sports" forum ... to include MLB/NCAA sports/NFL. Basically all basketball talk goes in the "Let's Talk Rocks" subforums, and all other sports go in the subforum with Texans/Astros/Dynamo.

    It would "clear up" the Hangout a bit. We wouldn't have to wade through the NFL related threads that pop up amongst all the wildly different (and not so wildly different) Hangout threads that populate the place. And the reverse is a positive, because those looking for their football fix and the latest related topics would know where to look. Same with baseball and the related topics. Two forums.

    Hangout would become less diluted with sports and morph into more "pure" nuttiness, a scary thought! :eek:

    If you need a name for the forum I proposed, it would basically just be a generic "All Other Sports" forum - it could cover college basketball as well, since March Madness threads tend to end up in the hangout right now. That would again be in the offseason of both football and baseball, so it helps keep that forum active year round.
