From an 80's child, RIP 106.9, former #1 on my radio presets.

I think "golden oldies" refers to music from the 40's and 50's. So yes, many of those listeners are succumbing to old age. Remember Paul Berlin, he played golden oldies.

I just wish there was a trance/techno/house/dance station here in Houston.

This is why terrestrial radio is doomed. Every time I see a thread like this, I feel better about my decision 5 years ago to get XM.

97.1 plays oldies sometimes, even though its mostly country. They do play elvis and some 50s rock.

The change in format on 106.9 wasnt really needed, 103.7 pretty much plays the same type of music.

No kidding. Looking at the list of songs played made me cringe. It seems since I quit listening to terrestrial radio that they STILL haven't changed the set list. JFC.

Strange... I got a "spam" phone call today from Cox Media that was a recorded advertisement for 106.9 the Zone... then I saw this thread.

Not alternative. Mostly Top 40 ****. Do not want.

Wouldn't it be easier (and cheaper) for one of these stations to make a paid slacker account (no ads) with actual alternative content, make it parental control friendly and then just broadcast it?

I actually like the Zone. Now they changed it again to simultaneously broadcasting the same as 107.5 the Eagle. :(

I was pretty pissed on the way to work when I noticed it was gone, hearing ads for Dean and Rog. Damn you Cox, you suck. 103.7 is a good alternative but play a little too much alternative pop for my liking

Used to love 106.9...but for all I know it stopped being Z-Rock 15 years ago.

It looks like this isn't just temporary until they come up with something else for 106.9. Their plan is to simulcast The Eagle on both stations because each one had a stronger signal in different parts of the market.

I only listen to sports radio now, except for Sunday night when Little Stevens Underground Garage is on 93.7.

This happened for me months ago, when more than half their music changed to **** early 90's I stopped listening right away, sadly this was within a few weeks before/after, can't remember, of 107.5 playing the crap 80's that not even The Point was playing. It was a sad time, and I'm only 25.

No No, it's true ...the mix of avant garde eighties "alternative bands" combine with classic rock to blow away the angst ridden, nihilistic ride of the nineties.

I listen to it often now. 90s alternative/grunge is golden
