I think that deal is only for attendees. If that ever gets offered to the public, people should jump on that one immediately. 99 bucks plus 3 movies is insane.
im waiting for one that plays both hd-dvd and blu ray player to come down in price. once hd-dvd dies, those movies are gonna be cheap as hell...when i got a laser disc player, i ended up getting about 60 movies for $20....
Where in the heck do you buy that HD DVD for $99??? ( I can't find a link to where it's being sold) The HD Panasonic is at WorstBuy for $119.
http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/15/toshiba-selling-99-hd-dvd-player-with-a-catch/ Toshiba is running a short, promotional sale by selling its HD A2 HD DVD player for $99 with three HD DVD movies over at the Home Media Expo in Las Vegas. You may be thinking this is great news: but wait, there's a catch. Only attendees of the show will be able to take advantage of the deal, and with ticket prices of between $100 and $500, the deal isn't as great once you get in. Toshiba, maybe you should focus on reducing the prices for general consumers rather than running these awkward "promotions." The fact that you're trying to sell players at a conference reeks of desperation, which is weird since it looks like you've got nothing to worry about.
Speaking of which... HD DvD Players outselling Blu-Ray in Europe http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19726219/ Pretty good news for the Hd-dvd camp. So much for the war being over. The number doesn't include Playstation 3s though. I might be mistaken but I think the hd-dvd players have been selling better than the blu-ray players here in the US too.
that's the reason not to buy one...they will be cheap once they go out and the movies will be even cheaper...
If you include PS3, there are about 11x as many Blu-ray players out there compared to HD-DVD. Certainly not all of those players are being used for Blu-ray, but enough of them are to give Blu-ray disks a 2:1 sales advantage (which may grow as a result of the PS3 price drop).
Some analyst said that 13% of game consoles are used for DVD playback. I'm gonna guess that more than 13% of PS3's are being used for Blu-ray playback, otherwise the sales lead for Blu-ray media would be really odd considering that HD DVD does lead in standalone player sales.
It's insane how low the prices on HD-DVD/Blu Ray players have dropped in only a year. Looks like the HD evolution will come much sooner than expected.
Blu-ray won't win as long as Fox/MGM is sitting on the sidelines and Disney and Sony are holding back their big name catalog titles.
