Some of those are questionable... The Hill for Wallace/ Atkins trade was ruined by injuries to Hill - so it's kind of dumb to say it was 'horribly lopsided'... And number 5: Shaq for Odom/ Butler and Grant was ok - had the Lakers kept Butler they'd be laughing right now while the frail old Shaq creaked around in Phoenix. That they moved Butler for Brown(!) is a MUCH worse move... Anyway - that Rockets draft day move completely sucked
Dominique Wilkins for Danny Manning was ridiculous. Fairly sure the Hawks were the #1 seed at the time of that trade. Completely killed their chemistry. Then Danny Manning walked at the end of the year.
That trade really shouldn't make the list at any point in time. It's not like Memphis was going anywhere with Pau Gasol. Also out of that trade they got Marc Gasol who has the potential to be pretty good and I think they got another draft pick. At the time the trade seemed bad but once you really think about it the trade wasn't that bad for Memphis. It was exaggerated because Gasol went to the Lakers in a trade like this.
how about this trade orchestrated by Mr. Clutch, the player / GM on draft day 1996, he traded away a 27-yr-old good starting-center (something you don't usually give up) for the 13th spot, gambling that he would land a 17-yr-old high schooler, based upon a belief that the draft pick was going to be great. with the 13th pick, he landed Kobe Bryant. Divac still had eight pretty good years left but West's feeling about Kobe turned out to be right. Bryant recently turned 30 and he has nine All-Star appearances, five All-NBA team namings, eight all-defensive team namings, three NBA rings and one Olympic gold ring.
Did they get equal value? No Did they launch a conference rival into another stratosphere? Yes Was it a complete disaster? No, in terms of building for the future and stockpiling cheap assets it's not a bad option. The keyword there: CHEAP. Cheap, since the underlying element of everything Memphis has tried to do is slash salary and make the team more attractive to potential buyers. How you try to sell a team like this to a fan base victimized by losing seasons, shaky trades and the possibility of being sold/moved is beyond me. It's no coincidence the Grizzlies are rock bottom in attendance for these reasons.
The Grant Hill trade shouldn't count because that was a sign and trade. Hill was heading to Orlando regardless and Detroit was wise to pick up a couple spare parts, one of whom blossomed in his time there.
I don't actually have anything useful to add, just wanted to say that the thread title makes me smile!

I think in these discussion you should only look at straight trades of players, not at situations that involve expiring contracts or basically sign/trade deals. I hate to bring this one up for instance, because I an a Barkley fan, but loook back at just a few of the things we did. We traded a young Robert "I just win titles" Horry AND Sam Cassell, who basically went on to have all star number for the next ten years, for an aging Barkley who even at the time you knew had only two or three good years in him at best.
due to technicalities in the NBA rules and regulation regarding players playing out their contract, the Lakers effectively pulled of this trade. The NO Jazz got all-star, but 36 yr-old, Gail Goodrich and had to give up their highest draft pick in th upcoming year, 1979. the Lakers then won a coin flip with two other teams to get the first pick which turn out to be Magic Johnson. Goodrich went on to team with Pete Maravich and play 3 yrs avg ~ 17+ points. All Magic did was to help the Lakers win 5 rings.
Maybe I missed it skimming over the article, but how did Kidd/Marbury not make the list? Also, I don't think the Shaq to Miami trade really belongs there. It only took LA four years to get back to the top of the West and Miami only won one title.
the griffin trade should be on there i agree, but c'mon every motherf#$ker on this BBS LOVED that trade...I was beyond excited. didn't work out obviously but it was a good play at the time, can't regret that.
from the article: "But hey, at least he's still playing professionally in Puerto Rico. Cockfights are better than Dallas." couldn't agree more.
im sorry but baron davis for dale davis and speedy claxton......that is way way way higher than foye for roy, foye honestly is not that bad a player, he's not a stud but he's not a bust either
