Gov. Howard Dean. If anyone saw the last debate, you knew this was coming. http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/01/15/elec04.prez.main/index.html DES MOINES, Iowa (CNN) -- Former Sen. Carol Moseley Braun -- trailing badly in the polls -- will drop out of the Democratic race for president and will endorse front-runner Howard Dean, Democratic sources told CNN late Wednesday. The sources said Braun and Dean will hold an event Thursday in Carroll, Iowa, where she will throw her support behind the former Vermont governor. "It's true. Carol felt like she had done what she needed to do," a Democratic source said. "She did herself a lot of good in this race. "She ran a good race and now she felt like it was time to hand it over to someone who can win. Those are the feelings that were expressed to me this evening." Moseley Braun was elected to the Senate in 1992 but was defeated in a bid for a second term in 1998. She is the only African-American woman to have served in the Senate. After her Senate defeat, she served as U.S. ambassador to New Zealand. Her candidacy in the crowded Democratic field never caught fire. Dean, meanwhile, on Wednesday trained his rhetorical guns on New Hampshire primary rival Wesley Clark, questioning Clark's credentials as a Democrat. "He is a good guy, but I truly believe he is a Republican," Dean said of the retired Army general and former NATO supreme commander who declared himself a Democrat shortly before entering the presidential race last year. If Clark were to win the Democratic presidential nomination, Dean said, the general election would be "the Republican primary." Clark called Dean's comments "old-time politics" and said he is a "Democrat of conviction." "When I got out of the military I was courted by both parties. I chose to become a Democrat," Clark said in Concord, New Hampshire, adding that he has voted for Al Gore and Bill Clinton in the past. "As a Democratic nominee, I will bring a lot of other people to this party and that is one of the things we have to do to win," Clark said. Clark has risen to second behind Dean in polls ahead of the January 27 New Hampshire primary. Dean said he was bothered by Clark's appearance at a May 2001 GOP fund-raiser in his home state of Arkansas where he said "great things about Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld and George Bush." At a Democratic candidate forum in October, Clark said he considered himself "nonpartisan" at the time and wanted the Bush national security team "to be successful."
Yeah, me too. That line about just ignoring those who say she can't win is just that... a line... I guess.
maybe she's getting ready for the catfight against Condi as Dean's VP? that would be interesting to see.
I'd like Braun... to be a neighbor... but not President of the US. I have had similar thoughts about GWB.
Me too. I would love to have a cold beer with Dubya and talk about baseball, but the thought of him as the leader of the most powerful nation in the world frightens the living sh*t out of me...and with good reason.
CMB accomplished what she set out to accomplish... she rehabilitated her image and rebuilt her base. I think she's now much smarter and more appealing than when she was in the Senate. She won't come close to the VP nomination, but a cabinet post or another run in Illinois are strong possibilities.
I liked her I wish she could have stayed around longer. I think she was shooting for a possible vp position from the start as well as just building some name recognition.
So, is Clark trying to prove his meddle as a Democrat by divulging on who he voted for? Hmmm...I have also voted for Al Gore (*shudder*) and Bill Clinton and I believe that MadMax voted for Clinton, maybe twice (I know he did vote for him once). So are we Democrats?

The criticism that he's a Republican started because he voted for Reagan at some point.
I think she has a good shot at the Veep if Dean is the man. Who else could run with him after attacking him so much? Kerry and Lieberman are definately out. Gephardt also has been vocal against Dean. Clark's ego is too big to accept #2. . Sharpton, no. Kucinich, no. Hillary, no. Graham could help in FL but he seems uninterested with politics. Edwards is a possibility i guess. i think a Dean/Braun duo could energize the dem base, or it could be 1984 all over again with Mondale/Ferraro. Still it would be interesting to see.
Interesting points. I'm a big Moseley Braun fan, and I have a lot of respect for her. I'd love to see her get a nice cabinet position. I'd *love* to see a Dean/Clark or Clark/Dean ticket, but they've gotten too nasty to let that happen. That's gotta be the Dems' dream team at this point. It'll take a perfect campaign to unseat the usurper, and a Dean/Clark ticket is a good start. Whoever gets the nomination will probably go with Graham to get his Florida votes. Big mistake, but who knows.
