The Texans have added established veterans FB Jameel Cook/ LB Sam Cowart/ C Mike Flanagan/ DE N.D. Kalu/ G David Loverne/ CB Dexter Mccleon/ WR Eric Moulds/ QB SAge Rosenfels/ TE Jeb Putzier/ T Ephraim Salaam/ and RB Antowain Smith. Along with top rookies like DE MArio Williams/ TE Owen Williams/ OT Charles Spencer and RB WAli Lundy. I think we have greatly improved our roster on both sides of the ball. Our Offensive line is restocked with quality vets and those rookies we drafted. I'm excited about the upcoming season. What are you guys thoughts on this? Oh I forget the other FA WR we added the 4 year veteran from the Bengals Kevin Walters. I predict 9 to 10 wins this season. I say this because last season with a much less quality team we won 2 games gave away 3 games in the final minite we should have won and 2 games we just made to many mistakes to win but were in the game till the end. WE could have had 7 wins last year with a team that we all know was horrible. So give me your thoughts and predict wins and losses if you will. Go Rockets and Go Texans!!!
Owen Daniels, Charles Spencer and Wali Lundy are top rookies? Owen Daniels is a poor man's David Thomas when it comes to receiving, and is worthless as a blocker. Charles Spencer, while big with nice measurables, will only see playing time if/when the O-Line sucks. Wali Lundy?! A TOP rookie?? Even if he is a steal for the 6th round (which remains to be seen), you still can't yet label him as a top rookie. I say we get 5-7 wins this year. If we had a running back who was at least mildy healthy AND mildly talented, then I'd say we'd get 8-9 wins... but since we don't -- 5-7.
Bucannon,Robinson, and Mccleon should be good for us. Other than that your right we need to hope defense up front does a great job. David Carr should explode this year because he has Andre Johnson, Eric Moulds and Kevin WAlters to pass to and he has C Mike Flanagan/ G David Loverne/ C Steve Mckinney/ T Ephraim Salaam/ T Seth Wand/ G Fred WEary/ G/T Zach Weigert/ and those awesome rookies we drafted for the oline 6-7 310 T Eric Winston and 6-4 352 T Charles Spencer. I predict 9 to 10 wins. I think we have improved that much. Predict wins and losses guys. Lets hear your thoughts?
Lonestarassman we have Dominick Davis and Antowain Smith as our 2 top running backs. Plus Morency and Lundy will give us depth incase Davis needs the preseason to get 100% healthy. Mario Williams will demand a double or triple teams which will allow guys like TRavis Johnson,Antown Peek,Sam Cowart and others to impact the opposing teams offensive line. We'll be fine.
Dominick Davis? Apparently you missed the part where I said "healthy." This guy's has been plagued with injuries throughout his career, and they've only gotten progressively worse. Yesterday, while spending most of his time on an excersise bike, he somehow managed to re-injure himself in training camp. You cannot rely on this guy to be your #1 running back because of his constant injuries. Antowain Smith would have been nice to have in 2001, but in 2006? No thanks. That leaves Morency and the unproven Lundy. Morency is nice, don't get me wrong, but if he's our guy at RB... we're screwed.
Our starting schedule is brutal, Davis looks like he'll struggle again with injuries, our secondary is a question mark at best and we have rookies at some key positions. I think the offense will be much improved and the defense will look better, but I'd be surprised if they did better than 7-9. Frankly, I wouldn't predict 7 wins. Hmmm...
Where did you see that DD was hurt again? He hasn't practiced, yet. He did have a precautionary MRI to make sure there was nothing wrong and it came back all clear. He's still got soreness that he'll have to work through. The plan is, when he's ready, to have him practice for 2 days and then take 1 off. I'd bet he only plays sparingly in the last 2 preseason games.
I'm going to go with a 5-11 record. The first six games on our schedule our pretty brutal and the only NFC East team we have a good shot of beating is the Eagles. The latter half of the schedule isn't too bad, except for Indy and the Pats. Honestly though, if we can win two of our first six games I'd be pretty happy. Keys to the season will be Davis' health, if Buchanon can bounce back, and if our O-line is actually somewhat decent.
9-10 wins? While we definitely seem like a better team on paper, let's not forget we are playing under a first time head coach. I like Kubiak and I think he'll do great, but I'm sure there are going to be kinks that need to be worked out. Here's my thought on next season: Offense: QB: Carr has ZERO excuses left. I think he'll improve under Kubiak alone, how much he'll improve is the big question. RB: DD/Smith/Morency is a good enough core under Kubiak's system, almost any RB can produce in that offense. OL: Can't get any worse than last season, zone blocking should help out a ton if they can get it down. Hopefully this will be our biggest improvement. WR: AJ/Moulds/Walters/Mathis is a pretty good core, but once again, it's gonna come down to whether Carr can get them the ball. Defense: DL: Adding Mario, Weaver, and Peek/Babin back to our DL should greatly improve our pass rush. LB: Losing Sharper and Wong last season really killed us. Cowart and Ryans are good additions, Greenwood should do better at OLB. DB: Our weakest link on defense by far, maybe the weakest on the team. I can't trust P-Burnt until he shows me otherwise, Faggins is out as well.
