So instead of voting on a measure to make America more secure, Republicans would rather obstruct once again just so Obama can't claim a foreign policy victory.

    Party before Country:

Sen. Richard Lugar (R-IN) has been the leading Senate Republican urging the upper chamber of Congress to ratify the New START arms control treaty with Russia. However, the Republican obstructionism that has become so routine throughout the past two years of President Obama’s tenure is standing in the way. Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ) has been the face of the GOP hamstringing and despite the fact that this non-controversial treaty — one that closely mirrors the one President Reagan signed with the Soviet Union — has been thoroughly debated in the Senate for nearly a year, Kyl told the New York Times, “If they try to jam us [in the lame-duck session], if they try to bring this up the week before Christmas, it’ll be defeated.”

Lugar has been reluctant to criticize his colleagues’ obstruction. When asked last week if they were just playing politics, Lugar said, “I am not ascribing motivations to anybody.” But other Republicans don’t seem to be holding back. Brent Scowcroft served as national security adviser to two Republican presidents and has been pleading with Congress to ratify New START. Profiling Lugar’s awkward position vis-a-vis other Senate Republicans on this issue, Politico reports today that Scrowcroft isn’t being as diplomatic as Lugar on the GOP’s incentive for holding up START:

It's good for the GOP if the U.S. is less secure and we fail if it will get Obama out so they can reclaim the presidency.

Kinda sick and anti-patriotic, but heck, if the public doesn't care, why should they?

Is this supposed to be even remotely surprising? I'm having trouble coming up with a reason why Republicans putting their anti-Obama agenda over the good of the country should even be newsworthy anymore.

    that's for suckers

As has been said, republicans would rather see mushroom clouds over America than give this president anything.

Not true. Democrats on the other hand loved all those body bags coming back from Iraq. They were all but rooting for the insurgents just as they were rooting for the Communists over Reagan.

What a surprise that this is a George Soros funded source. Now that's a dude that wants to see America destroyed.

Here is another report where once again the president is reaching out to republicans on this issue and again being rebuked.

I'm sure you are just playing along, and don't really believe this.

But it's interesting that you have no defense of what the GOP is doing here. You only try and claim that the Dems have done the same thing.

But even that defense isn't accurate. The Dems voted for Bush's policies in Iraq. They gave the President what the President said he needed to be successful and keep America safe.

They voiced their displeasure at how a lot of the stuff was implemented but they didn't obstruct national security policy. This is what the GOP is doing now.

Nope. Your bunch hates America. Pure and simple. Y'all want to see it destroyed as a great country. Y'all wanted the Commies to win in the cold war and y'all want to see America no more important than Botswana when it comes international politics because you see America as the source of evil. It's same old Hate America First crap that holds sway with the Obamatons.

It's called being uneducated and relying on ignorance preached by Beck and Limbaugh to raise an army of idiots and a-holes.

As I said before da Whopper. If you cannot discuss the topic rationally please leave the thread for the adults.

Again you make the claim with no facts to back it.

This policy the GOP is blocking is one that is actually important and vital to our national defense. You have provided zero reasons why it should be blocked, and only made baseless claims that the Democrats want America to fail.

An article from the very conservative Salt Lake Trib on the republican obstructionism and the danger they are causing to Amreica

Republicans are playing a dangerous game

Republican senators are playing a dangerous game.

Led by Arizona Sen. Jon Kyl, they are holding the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty hostage, in effect trying to kill it. Though Kyl claims there isn’t time in a lame-duck session to consider it, he is transparently trying to block the treaty to make President Obama seem ineffective and weaken him for 2012.

This is in tune with Minority Leader Sen. Mitch McConnell, who says the top priority for the GOP Congress should be to make Obama a one-term president. Utah Senator-elect Mike Lee is among the 10 incoming GOP senators demanding no vote this year — because with more seats next year, Republicans can more easily block the treaty entirely.

But this partisan political win could come at a very great cost to all of us.

Hell yeah. That's because people like you and mc mark want to destroy a great nation and I resent the hell out of it. And I resent the fact we have a president who similarly hates the greatness of America. He does not think we are any better than Kenya or Indonesia. No doubt he thinks we are worse.
