Panic begets harried decision-making. We don't need to panic, but to be patient and wait for the right deal/player to come along and then make the trade.

GS promotes Dunleavy to SF and probably becomes a better "team" because of his all-around game coupled with NVE at PG. I think DAL will wish they'd kept NVE's explosive scoring punch off the bench. DAL likes flash/offense, but its a balanced "team" with solid role players and strong defense that go the farthest in the play-offs--look at SA & NJ!

CD and JVG are trying to build a "team." Just because they haven't made a big splash doesn't mean we should panic. Pike and Grif are solid role-players and great additions to building a "team." We already have stars in Yao & Steve. If Mobes is mentored properly and adjusts his game, he's not far behind those two. If MoT works on his defense and rebounding, he could be the answer at PF...I can't believe I said that.

EG is still young and is definitely the type of player that needs a more disciplined coach/system for his development. Under JVG he should have the opportunity to reach his potential.

Boki, I'm not sure. Haven't seen him play much and I don't know how he'll respond to JVG/NBA.

Basically, I think we need to give JVG a chance to build our "team" and evaluate our needs.

Yes, as fans we can see glaring holes/weaknesses, but we ain't the coach or GM. They know the team better than we and we've got to give them a chance to fix the gaps and develop the "team."

Who here has the second key that must be turned at the exact same opposite eachother 15 feet, that requires two people with hands that can grip a key, and a coherent ability to countdown from a count of 3, to 0. Do not turn the key on 1 mind you, because this is a PANIC BUTTON SITUATION! Any slight mishap means absolutely NOTHING! The Mavs were already a scary team, and most of the posters on this board were already panicking before word came of this trade. Nothings changed. A team that swept us in the season series last year, and would probably of been better then us this year before the trade means nothing. People question the Lakers ability to gel with 4 superstars all on the court at the same time. The same can be said about the Mavs/T-Wolves/Spurs/ and Sacramento. It's not definite that all these new acquisitions will gel very well. It's not to say they won't, but you never know what the season will turn out like til it actually happens. For all we know, a couple of these big name superstars that have been acquired this summer might run into season ending injuries, or will pull a "Kobe", or get busted on drugs. Who all knows what will happen.

I've seen this mentioned before, that part of Moochie's contract is a team option. Is this for real? Anyone know? Clutch??

That would be like finding a winning Lotto ticket under your pillow from the Tooth Fairy. Or stumbling across a unicorn in the woods. In short, that would ROCK!

    Deckard,

"Team Option" is not the way to say it. What I've heard is that not all years are protected against "Lack of Skill" (ie, guaranteed)...which was the situation of Sabonis.

You can waive any guy at any time, but you cannot terminate the salary compensation (or salary cap hit) of guaranteed years. Conversely, players having non-guaranteed years can be waived, with their contract compensation terminated.

in the end though, for all practicle purposes, it works like a team option, except for the fact that there can only be one option yr per contract. In this case, rumor has it that Moochie's last 2yrs are not protected against Lack of Skill.

Anyone who thinks we have a chance in the playoff is nuts. The west is getting way too strong for us to compete in the next couple of years. Making the playoffs is the only bright spot we have to look forward too. I was still excited about this season after the lakers assembled an all-star team. I was also excited about our new logo/uniforms. After seeing the plain uni's, and after compairing our logo to the rest of the league, I think our new design is pretty lack luster. Especially after the wait. Don't get me started on the website. I really don't understand how CD can bring us Barkley, Drex, and tha Pip, but when every other team in the west gets better, he does nothing. Oh, I completely forgot, signing Griffin was huge. If nothing happens before the season, which seems to be the case, I have a feeling it will be another long misrable season full of blown expectations.

We need 20 pts in the frontcourt. SAR is the answer. He's 20lbs heavier than Jamison and has only 2 years left on his contract. He makes the perfect triangle with Steve and Yao, all young.

Pry him away CD, give it your best shot.

Damn you for turning down that deal last time!

sometimes I feel like a nut
    sometimes I don't

Can this team make the playoffs? absolutely

Can this team play well the first round? definitely

Can this team get out of the first round? possibly

If the players play to their potential and play within a quality team scheme, this team could win 55 games and make it to the second round. Beyond that, our youth and inexperience will probably cause us to falter.

but I don't expect us to do more than make it to the second round this year, and even that is probably not going to happen.

    Thanks, heypartner.
Man, how I hope the rumor is true. Maybe he'll turn his career around, but he has a ways to go and needs a major kick in the a** from Van Gundy. At least Cato has turned into a more than adequate backup who has trade value. I can think of 2 PG's we have let walk who would have been a major upgrade compared to Norris, based on last year.

When you are panic, you should start a new thread and tell the whole world about it. So the panic button is on upper right corner of the main page. And it is labelled "New Topic".

We dont need to panic just yet... We still have a great team.... Cuttino, Steve, Yao... should be able to carry the rockets... We dont completely sux... Yall act as if we didnt have good players in our team.. I mean they might not listen, but there is still no excuse for them not to make it to the playoffs... Of course other teams are getting better... but hey we are just like the other teams... we have 3 great guys all the coach needs to do is get them to play as one unit with the whole team...

If anyone should be hitting the panic button, it should be David Stern.

Talent consolidation is happening at a frightening pace... and it occurs nearly only in the Western conference. At this rate, you'll have 5 Western conference teams and 24 wannabes.

The Rockets should be panicking but really should be cursing at the fact they're in the West.

Those of you who say "don't panic" must be on crack   !

Do you honestly think that either Dallas or Golden State, (or Seattle, Phoenix or the Clips for that matter) are through dealing???

We have seen at least 4 different players change teams that fit the mold that we KNOW needs to be filled on this team, but instead of being in the ring, like Teddy R. says, we remain on the sideline, never having even been in the fight to begin with...

    pretty frickin sad!!! :( :( :(

When are you going to start up the petition to get JVG fired????? Ya know, since he obviously doesn't know what he is doing, just like Rudy.

I don't think we'd have to include Rice in a deal for Grant. I might be one of the few on this board who believe we have an eye on trading for him (JVG brother of SVG, Miami asst coach; the fact we have looked into acquiring Jermaine O'Neal [pipe dream], Antonio Davis [will be too old as his contract progresses], and Rasheed [I wouldn't mind him, but not the bruiser we need]; how we have made no other moves despite the fact others have).

I think it would all be a matter of, Do the Clips match Odom or not? If they do match, we would include Rice to Miami, which can swallow the contract and then go for someone else next year or trade their first round pick for Odom, if LAC goes for that.

If the Clips match, Rice stays, and we maybe trade Mo or Cato or whomever.

Anyway, I'm hoping for this. We'll make the playoffs, barring an injury; but I want a team that will really compete. Grant might be overpaid, but he's a solid human being off the court, and a great rebounder/defender on the court.

    Rockets-R-Us,

If Golden State and Dallas are not through dealing, then why do we assume that we have nothing in the works?

Golden State will also look to dump one of its centers (I guess Dampier, who makes $7 mil and has a few years left on his contract).

Jerry West is positive that his team will soon have a center. Golden State, Seattle, and, well, Houston would be in a position to deal. Cato is good Yao-Exhaustion insurance, but quite overpaid as a backup.

Of course, those teams aren't 'through dealing', but the Rockets must be. And we all know, in order to be good, you must deal.

But also, the Rockets would have contended last year, if only Boki would have been given more minutes by dumb ole Rudy T.
