I bought this new digital camera and have been taking a lot of pictures at a high quality, so the file sizes are pretty big, even though they are already JPG pics - about 630 KB for a 1600 x 1200 picture. Some of them I would like to reformat to about 100 KB or so. I have Adobe Photoshop and know I can do it with that, but I am looking for a way to change the compression/file size for more than one picture at a time....like...for all pictures within the same directory or so.

Do you know of any such tool?

    Thanks a lot.

Since you already have Photoshop, check out "Actions." It's a built-in macro function that can automate the renaming, resizing, and pretty any command/effect in Photoshop for a large number of files.

Thanks a lot for all the advice. I downloaded both the Powertoys tool and Irfanview, both are useful. Will try out the Photoshop macro function as well, but one of the main reasons I didn't want to use photoshop just to do batch conversions is that it takes so long to start up alone (and then it starts downloading stuff from Adobe without my permission ).

Just got back from Oregon with about 50 pics on my new Sony Digital Camera. I was just about to install the Pixela Image Mixer disc that came with the camera.

Does anyone use this program? If so, how does it compare to the free Irfanview program? Will it resize the pics for e-mail?
