Vick fell awkwardly after first-quarter tackle -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESPN.com news services ATLANTA -- Atlanta Falcons quarterback Michael Vick fractured his right fibula and was taken off the field on a cart Saturday night during an exhibition game against Baltimore, ESPN has learned. ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports that according to his sources, Vick is likely to be out at least six weeks with his fractured fibula. Vick was chased out of the pocket on a third-down play late in the first quarter and was tackled by Adalius Thomas. Vick fell awkwardly on his right leg, and grabbed it even before he fell all the way to the ground. Thomas, after briefly celebrating the tackle, came back over to check on Vick, and several of Vick's teammates also kneeled over him. When it was apparent that he was hurt, a hush came over the crowd at the Georgia Dome. After he was looked at by the medical staff for about five minutes, Vick got up with some help and limped a couple of steps to the cart. He was wheeled to the locker room amid a standing ovation. X-rays were taken, but the results weren't immediately known. Vick got off to a rough start against the Ravens, getting sacked on the first play and throwing an interception on the next one. He finished 0-for-4, and rushed for 8 yards. He made the Pro Bowl last season in his first full season as a starter and set three NFL records for rushing by a quarterback.
I just saw this when I got in from playing basketball. Really got me feeling...bad I guess. He's my favorite player in the NFL, and I like the Cowboys. Hope he recovers alright. It sounded like he was getting ready to put up MVP numbers. Well....the Cowboys, I guess, got a little lucky and don't have to face him in the season opener, but I didn't want it to be like this.
I don't get it. How can you fracture your fibula by "falling?" Kind of like Chris Webber breaking his leg from jumping. What a shame.
he didnt fall he got tackled from behind and went down on his leg akwardly. his leg bent backwards...........
awh shoot, by far my favorite player and on every single one of my fantasy teams.I hate pre-season. On a side note there might be a madden jinx looking back at the last few madden coverboys they've all been injured or had a terrible year Eddie George Daunte Cullpepper Marshall Faulk Michael Vick
Its funny u say that, u read this article? http://sports.espn.go.com/espngamer/story?id=1594186 the one bout Kobe and Carson Palmer is priceless
I've got another FFL draft this evening. Very curious to see how high he'll be drafted with a bum leg.
Isn't that the same injury that Quentin Griffin had this year? He recovered quicker than expected, I don't see why Vick can't...
He needs one of those Randall Cunningham hats that says "I'll be back... Scrambling!" Probably by last couple games if they are contending, otherwise, the next start will be next season.
hey shut up, let me make fun of my team's run defense ok how about this, q's injury probably healed up so quick thanks to the lack of hits he sustained last year in the RRS, thus leaving the bone strong before the initial injury.
Regression to the mean, right? Players are typically on the cover only when they have career years. By definition, a career year is usually the best year, which will likely not be duplicated in the next season. That said, this still sucks . . . For the first 6 weeks, the NFL won't be as much fun this year. Plus, when Vick comes back, will he be more tentative and less likely to run with abandon?
The "Fantasy Spin" on this injury is basically that Vick falls from the 7th-8th pick in some leagues to a 8th-10th ROUNDER. No mobility, out 4+ weeks.... Also drops Price's value and Dunn's. Glad my draft is this Friday. There may be a Madden Curse, but damn I have been playing that game for 3 straight days....next season please put someone I hate on the cover.
Man i'm glad we have a late draft in my league. That would *SUCK* to lose Vick in the B.S. pre-season. As for the NFL in general it sucks to lose a human highlight reel, not to mention he's a nice guy and the Falcons were going to be good this season. I lost McNabb last season life goes on...
