Here is the situation, I have a friend of mine that is moving to the Northeast and some friends and I decided we should all go out this weekend as kind of a Houston send-off. Question is where should we go? I don't know many of the new cool bars around Houston. I am on the Northside and don't make it downtown to often. We would like to go some place that is fun and lively, but we also don't want to have to scream at each other to hold a conversation or pay $10 a drink. Anybody have any suggestions???? Thanks
stevie: No beef with gay bars though, right? JoeBarelyCares is steering you to one, in case you didn't know. The great thing about Chances is it's like three bars in one. One of them features lipstick lesbians. As for straight bars my favorite's Rudyards on Waugh Drive. Live music upstairs, but you can stay down if you don't want to pay a cover and see a band. They've got dart boards, pinballs and video gold downstairs and pool tables upstairs. Huge selection of cheap beers, many on draft. I go the cheap route with two dollar Lone Star tallboys, but they've got any beer you'd want. Also a full bar, great bartenders and a pretty full kitchen. Houston Press recently said they had the best burgers in town. Also a great jukebox. And there's another decent bar next door called The Next Door, if you get sick of Rudz. Warren's is great too. Beats the hell out of any other downtown "bar," most of which are yuppie dance clubs. The Harp's nice for a laid back atmosphere. And MacElroy's in Shepard Square's alright too. I still say Chances though. Or Mary's. Depends on your personal tastes.
Oops. Didn't see the 'fun and lively' bit. Of the bars mentioned in this thread only Rudz qualifies. The others are mostly hangouts.
The Tavern Any Little Woodrow's Rice Village (Baker Street, Brian O'Niells, Ginger Man) Back Porch Lizard's Volcano (RM95 and I have had good luck meeting chicks there ) Sherlock's Pub - West Gray Ave Those are just a few of my fav places to hit when im In H-town. Good beer drinking, fun, laid back places.
If you're on the north side: Molly Mcquire's on 1960 and Kuykendahl. Nice laid back pub atmosphere, great jukebox, plenty of pool, darts, beer specials to choose from. Friendly staff. Wolfies on 1960 and Stubner Airline. You can't work there unless you're a young, hot woman who looks really good in "Daisy Duke" shorts. Those women make the Hooters women look like skanks. I. Love. This. Place.
Man I went there one day for lunch and the "C" team must have been on shift because we had cottage cheese legs serve us. She had the biggest legs Ive ever seen in my life. Made the food taste bad.....
Red Star, Red Door, The Social on Sundays, Brian O'Neills for a pint and some ass, Grasshopper, The M Bar if you just got paid, Lotus Lounge, PF Changs if you want to have pre party cocktails and meet some girls(on westheimer by the galleria), I like the club Seven but it is falling out of style, Little Woodrows, The Tavern, The Volcano.... there are more but I am drunk....
