Bringing this thread back because I have listened several times to "Before These Crowded Streets" along with "Busted Stuff".

I hate to say this but I was disappointed overall with BTCS. I do think that "Crush" is the best song on that CD and "Spoon" and "Pig" are good songs, too, but to me, I just felt that they were too many weak tracks. I guess one reason why I didn't like it as much as "Under the Table and Dreaming" and "Crash" is that Dave Matthews sings in weird ways on BTCS. The way he sings on "Don't Drink the Water" and "Halloween" borders on tedious to listen to. Granted he has a quirky singing voice to begin with like Dylan, Billy Corgan, Thom Yorke, etc, but to hear him growl through songs is something that I would rather not hear.

Oh well, maybe it will grow on me over time. As for "Busted Stuff", I have only listened to it like 2 or 3 times because I had such high expectations for BTCS. I think it is good but not as good as the first 2 albums. A very dark and somewhat brooding album, it doesn't have that growling singing that is on BTCS.

I'll have to get one of the live albums next. BTW - do any of you ever go to http://www.dmband.com? It is advertising a Dave solo album.

I disagree, but it's all personal opinion. I'm a big DMB fan (favorite band), so I'm biased towards all of their work. But, I think BTCS is their best album. Don't drink the water, the Stone, The Last Stop and Crush are all amazing. You are right in that Dave growls alot on that album, but hell IMO Dave's voice is another instrument in the band and I welcome the change in tone. There's enough DMB out there though for you to grab what you like best, as the albums have all pretty much brought their own unique style.

I'm curious to see what they come up with *as a band* next, given that busted stuff was my least favorite. Funny though (not really) that I had heard most of the Busted Stuff at concerts/Kazaa (due to the record being scrapped originally and the songs being out for a long while) prior to the album being released. I hope they go back to the early days style, back towards Crash, BTCS, and UTTaD on their next release.

The band is absolutely amazing, and I'm glad you're giving them a try. Nice bump as I had intended on commenting the first pass, but didn't.

I'm a member of the club. Let me know if you ever want tickets to a show, as it's pretty (fairly, not third grade) easy to get tickets to any show on the tour. Lotto based system, but the members with the longest tenure get first priority, so I'm a lock to get you tickets. And I won't even mark them up, I'll pass them along at cost...

They will be at the Bell Centre in Montreal on Sept. 2.

They will in in Toronto the next night.

Looks like the Montreal show still has seats available.

I'm still a relative "noobie" as far as being a DMB fan goes, but I think I'm different because when I discovered them, I attacked their catalog of work like this bbs attacks a YoYao pic! My job allows me to listen to music all day, so DMB is all I've been listening to for the last 7 months or so.

When I first got into DMB, BS was my favorite album because I think it's Carter's best playing. Now I'd have to go with Crash. From start to finish, every song besides Cry Freedom is great. I like the way the album sounds and I think Lillywhite captures the DMB "sound" on Crash better than any of their other albums. As far as material, UTTAD may be just as good, but I don't think the sound is quite as good as Crash.

BTW, Manny I hope you're learning (like me) that any good DMB fan has to abbreviate all the songs/albums. :D
