I have an AVI file that I want to burn with my DVD-RW drive so that it'll play in my DVD player...do i need to encode/decode the AVI into another format...if so, which one? Thanks in advnace.
yea, i've been there before...it confuses the hell outta me...do you know a simple program i can download to get the job done?
I have been studying up on this ever since I got my DVD burner last week. Yes, you do have to convert everything you want to watch on your stand alone DVD player into a DVD-compliant Mpeg2 Use VirtualDub to save the audio as a .wav file...and then encode the avi and the wav together in Tmpgenc But this is just the simplistic version, it is actually much more complicated than this.. Go to dvdrhelp.com and readup on all aspects. This is the link to a guide to converting from AVI to MPEG2..if there is anything you are having trouble with...ask http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tmpgencdvd.htm
Dude, there ain tnothing simple in DVD burning....you have to get your brain bent around the stuff or you are gonna cost yourself and arm and a leg in coasters... DoD...it isnt vcdhelp anymore...it is dvdrhelp.com
i've actually used the free trial of DVD X Copy and it's SIMPLE to use...all you do is pop in an original DVD movie into the drive and click Begin...it rips the dvd to ure hard drive and then you just put in a blank DVD disc and click Begin again...and in about half an hour you gotta 100% bootleg DVD...and it works too, i've tried GET THE FREE TRIAL FOR DVD X COPY HERE
thats fine for backing up DVDs...but what if(as in this case) you have a movie file you need to convert and encode to be burnt...that is where it gets complicated. anyway, as I said...go read that guide, and if you have any questions...hit me in the mornin..I should have time to check in here from work.
I think they both take you to the same place. Speaking of which... I need to archive a few hundred video clips. You'd think a dvd held a lot of files.... yeesh.
Rockets2K, do you know of any other programs to make backups, because when I used DVD X Copy, it seems to freeze and skip a lot...is there any way of getting around this...or any other good programs you may know of?
thats true...I hadnt tried that since I have it bookmarked.. I guess it depends on if you are willing to sacrifice resolution.. as it is, I can only fit 5 FG episodes on 1 dvd at full DVD resolution and decent bitrate. btw.....for any DVD burning enthusiasts that happen to read here... What model burner do you have? and what are your main softwares that you use? SLandballa.. http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools?toolsearch=§ionselect=19&orderby=Name&Submit=Search+or+List+tools http://www.dvdrhelp.com/tools.php#DVD Rip tools
I bought the Sony DRU500A when it first came out, so I still have that. I primarily use the burner for archiving, so I haven't dabbled with any "movie-making" software as of yet.
That's great if you just want to steal videos... there's no editing involved. I think he was talking about editing, rendering, etc. video captures from TV. That's what's a pain.
thanks for the links...do you know what codec i need to install that let's me view AVI files...i just bought this computer and all i hear is the sound when i try watching an AVI, there's no picture...
On thttp://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/gordianknot/GordianKnot.CodecPack.1.4.exe?download thats it for the night...Ill get to anything else toorrow...good luck
