Final, we got some of the nude. Anyone notice the black dude getting his salad tossed? I can hear the director, "So, girls, in this scene Tyrus will be doing...uh, what's your name sweety." "Amber". Yeah, so Tyrus will be doing Amber up against the wall here. I also need one of you darlings licking him from behind." "Licking his neck?" "no, no. his behind...from behind. On your knees." "Licking his ass??!" "Yes, that's what happen when you're on pure MDMA at a gentleman's mansion. Get it." "Gross!" "Ok, I'll give an extra $500 to the one who does it." "OK, I can do that." Crystal.
Well this episode was easily the most "into it" I've been this season... only took 7 episodes. I totally saw the end of it coming though.
Everything is coming to a head, looking forward to the finale. Curious if Frank is going to make it out of the season alive.
Yes. Its actually going to be much more watcheable as a binge watch piece. Its essentially a 7 hour movie up to this point with a pretty tragic ending (up to this point). The conclusion.... hell if I know what happens (except for one character whose ending is pretty classically telegraphed in a very rewarding way). The first 6 hours are all buildup to this point where their world caves down on our 4 main characters. I know you've seen people be VERY critical of this season. Don't listen to it. Just make up your own mind. You have to except that its a TV show, and its hard to make a perfect TV show. Even the best of the best still have plot holes, some bad dialog, and un-oscar worthy acting. Shows like The Wire, Breaking Bad, and the first 4 season of GOT have made everyone spoiled thinking that TV is supposed to be that high quality all of the time. Either watch, and enjoy or don't watch. But being hypercritical just for the sake of being hypercritical about something that is popular to criticize (and this season has had a big red target on it ever since it was announced), is counter productive to everyones time. I've enjoyed this season very much. But its probably going to be more enjoyable to watch in one chunk rather than once a week.
Think you have a good point. This would have worked much better if they'd just released them all ala Netflix. As a whole it'll be easier to gloss over some of the bigger issues since you won't be waiting a whole week after a slow episode.
This thing looks to be ending strong. Curious to see how the tunnel/occult **** goes anywhere in only 90 minutes. Last night's episode was probably a top 4-5 TD episode for me.
Where as last season worked phenomenally well as a week to week suspense builder, this one is definitely meant to be binge watched. Last episode was well done and I think the finale will be a good one.
I think everyone's just a little frustrated with the Rachel McAdams teasing, we've all seen the Notebook for Christ sake
Hey, I was wondering from last week's episode, Frank went to visit some kid who's dad died. He had a heart to heart moment with this kid.. anyways, I was just wondering who the dad was and what part did he play in the show? The scene just seemed kind of random to me (didn't get it). Thanks.
http://www.pajiba.com/true_detective/who-the-hell-is-stan-on-true-detective.php The critics love to keep ragging on the show treating minor characters as important ones and losing the audience in the process. IMO, I think the showrunner is trying to tell something to the audience in the process... its our main characters who we need to be focusing on with their personally journey. The case & the villian aren't the draw of THIS show. They are lurking in the background, but like the characters see it... its unclear who they are really chasing after, and are too processing very fuzzy information. The writer did the exact same thing last season. Not sure why its such a huge shock to these snobby writers who think their job is so terrible to write about True Detective for a living. Sob...
What's the theory? What about that guy in prison who's DNA matched the rape kit? And why kill off the character and take away a possible big pay off for the audience with Ray?
I agree, and I do think that this is the point of the season. I also think, however, that it doesn't excuse the writers of the show for giving an underwhelming overarching plot. The whole "it's not about the mystery, it's about the characters" is somewhat of a copout in my opinion, something Season 1 handled a lot better.
Exactly. The underwhelming story telling and confusing plot were bad not only in themselves, but they also dragged down the audiences ability to appreciate, empathize or relate to the the characters. It wasn't until this episode, where I could really get into or root for the motivations of the characters. And even though I'm still not a fan of Franks character as written or acted, atleast this episode I could finally root for him burning down the casino and causing mayhem. Alan Sepinwall's review said it best, "Among the many glaring problems of this season, one of the biggest has been the convoluted mystery at the center of it. In crafting a plot involving so many disparate characters, crimes, agendas and even eras, Nic Pizzolatto hasn't lacked for ambition this year, but the story has lacked any obvious reason for the audience to care about any of it. The show's struggle with characterization ties into this.... but like Ray Velcoro, I spent a lot of the season's early chapters struggling to figure out what the point of any of this was, or whose agenda would ultimately triumph." And with this episode, just as the story gets good, there is only one episode left and things look dire (or dead) for the characters... perhaps that isn't a coincidence.
She seems to have been miscast for the character. Nah...she really is doing a great job imo even with all the teasing. I'm buying her bs.
