i'm shocked vangundy didn't want posey back. he was easily our best defender and did all the dirty work- diving for loose balls, key steals, guarding the opponents best scorer, etc. these seem like traits vangundy covets. who dropped the ball?

UMMMMM... We werent about to overpay posey... Posey was offered the whole MLE by memphis.. We werent about to get stuck with another stupid contract (ex: CATO, MO, MOOCHIE). Posey was a great defender but the money that he was getting paid is to much... HE IS NO SUPERSTAR REMEMBER THAT!

the mid-level exception does not represent overpaying a still-very-young starter. i wanted posey back precisely because he isn't a superstar. i think it will hurt us. but i guess we can all hope that van can get through to stevie/cat/moochie and teach them that winning time comes as the result of good decision-making, not humiliating your opponents with skillz.

Well to me Moochie is a lost cause simply getting overpaid... But Francis and Cuttino could be a dynamic duo although i think it would be better if cuttino were moved to the bench and move francis to the 2... I think acquiring Travis Best would be the best option for me... But trust me posey hasnt proven yet that he deserves the whole MLE... i mean we all know he is a great defender.. but we are just throwing money away... If we had given posey the MLE than we could of never signed pike... And i think acquiring pike and a griffin was better cuz we got a great shooter and great defender..... i think acquiring mark jackson would be good for the veteran's minimum.. the line up would be great like this

    PG: Best/Jackson/Moochie
    SG: Francis/Cuttino/Pike
    SF: Rice/A.Griffin/Boki
    PF: Griffin/MoT
    C: Yao/Cato

i agree about moochie- ugliest game in the NBA. why? because he plays stoopid -like steve francis is wont to do at times, with one-million times less talent. moochie needs to overacheive to be decent, not try to emulate a gifted athlete like stevie, and boy is he overpaid.

i love stevie, cuttino too, and i would love to pick up a veteran point to allow stevie to play more 2-guard, but the onus is on him to conceptualize the game with more of emphasis on TEAM.

I vote we move all Posey threads to the Dish forum. He's not a Rocket anymore.

I think the Rockets franchise will somehow manage to forge on without him...

Travis best is another shoot first pass second point guard, we already have that. But marc jackson would be a terrific addition.

imo, 7th to 9th seed teams shouldnt be paying double for B type players if it only brings us to the 6th seed. it could always backfire and stick us in knicks and clipperland.

Posey said "It's a good situation for me. The Grizzlies are a young team with very talented players who work hard. I like their style of play, it's very unselfish. I think it's a good fit for me, because my skills start with defense. I can bring that high intensity and being able to defend on the floor to the Grizzlies."

can't blame the guy, he's gettin paid more, and he'll get more touches at the ball. It's not like cat and franchise ever shared the ball with him anyway, so i wish him the best in memphis. hopefully we can pick up a bigger body to back up our so so weak frontline. EG and MoT are kids compared to the west monster PFs, personally I'd rather suit up Ewing instead, at least he has a presence and some intimidation factor. Pike and AG are good additions, not great, but give us more experience and decent perimeter shooting and defense respectively which we've been lacking for so long. It'll be interesting to see how cat and steve respond to JVG's style and maybe play some teamball this year. Hopefully they can see that 7'5" dude in the paint.

This guy is gone, thread close. For players ending their rookie contracts, the last year for somebody is just a Max year, when they get paid well, they suck, I will say, 50% of them, so I am with Rox to rather let go, he is at least not a very good investment, save money for Yao's max!!!!

This forum is the appropriate place for the discussion of current and former Rockets.

I wanted us to match Posey, we didn't. That should be the end of it for now as long as both sides don't bring it up or take cheap jabs. Maybe with distance 6-months, 9 months, 5 years--we can revist this decision, for now we should move to other things.

I liked Posey but he was a good not great defender. I would have traded Pike and Agriff for posey without hesitation.
