I actually feel better after watching that clip. If a big is killing us I feel good having Hayes to throw at them.
This signing is bothering me. Obviously Morey knows best, but I'd want to know the reason for this. We didn't bring him to mentor young bigs, because 3 years ago we had like 5 bigs, drafted in first round and Morey didn't bring any veteran big to mentor them, so it's unlikely he'd bring one now. So it should be for basketball reasons. I watched quite a lot Raptors games last year, but Hayes didn't play much and when he did he was non existent on offense, could stand his ground on defense 1 on 1, but he's not a rim protector. Not a fan of signing, but fan of Morey, so I'll have to wait and see what role Chuck has.
Garcia last year, same things said at this time locker room guy etc. won't make it through season when room is needed.
Chuck has never been exceptionally "fast" or athletic, but he is exceptionally strong and more importantly SMART.
Jones & D-Mo are vets heading into their 4th season. Hayes is insurance if D-Mo isn't healthy and the young bigs (Harrell & Capela) show they're not ready to contribute during pre-season.
I think his size also makes him capable of chasing guys like Draymond Green all the way out to the arc. In small ball situations he is going to be valuable as defender and a rebounder.
It's tough to say anything against Chuck because he gives you 110% ("that's impossible, by definition you can only give one hundred percent of anything" - Hypnotized Baseball Team, "The Simpsons"). Other teams didn't value him as the Rockets did. "Oh, he's short for a 4, let alone a 5, he isn't athletic, we've got younger guys now", whatever, so he was on teams where he got pushed down the depth chart. But if his stand-your-ground positional, slap-the-ball-outta-other-dude's-hands defense is even 85% intact, then I'm perfectly fine with this signing. As I posted before, if there were some miracle trade for DeMarcus and Chuck was to serve as a familiar-face (Sactown) mentor, I'd be doubly, "triply" for the trade. Morey knows what he's doing.

Why do fans care so much about players that will hardly play? I love Chuck, but he is on the end of the bench on a min salary. Why are you so worried? Dorsey hardly played yet people think he cost the Rockets games (I know Dorsey won the Memphis game for the Rockets). He didn't play enough to get the type of hate he gets..
i may in the minority but i am more psyched about this signing than the lawson trade thats how much I love the chuck wagon
I feel the same way. Why not bring back those guys. I don't think this was a good signing. Although as popular as Chuck Hayes is, I still felt as if we should have gone after Carlos Boozer. He's a big man that can score. Remember fans, we need more scoring from everyone on the court.
Not true. We have elite scorers with Lawson and Thornton now. Chuck gives us a dynamic defender in a pinch. Chuck can guard any position on the court.
