Go to Cajun Seafood (that's seriously the name) and get the garlic crab legs and crawfish.

It's in the ghetto, so if you're with your wife, you'll probably want to do take-out. I've eaten there once, and had a drunk guy singing to me lol

Yeah man, several dudes from my buddy's bachelor party split off and went over there. They wasted half the day waiting for that fried chicken - said it took forever to get a table but the chicken was perfectly fried with just the right amt of batter and flavor.

Had dinner at R'evolution - atmosphere was excellent, good wine list, but I wasn't that impressed with the food.

Next on my list is to try Clancy's or Galatoire's next time I'm in town. Supposed to be excellent.

Save yourself some money and just hand me 20$. I'll stab you once in the back for that real Nawlins experience without the travel time.

This I do remember from my visit there many years ago. My cousin and I were 12 years old, being approached by dudes wanting to sell us cocaine, and my dumbass cousin playing "big-boy" by pawing at his shirt pocket and turning to me with, "Did you bring your money?", and me staring back with a, "Will you get real?" look.

Sort of a same situation we had in Rio de Janeiro (although there it can be worse). When it gets dark, take a cab.

I stayed at the Omni royal crescent and bumped into Omer Asik there. Wasn't a bad place and easy to get around.

A lesson to learn from my mistake-

I was there about two weeks ago for a conference. My friend bought us one of those Absinthe drinks from The Ole Absinthe House, and then immediately someone gave me a Hand Grenade.

I didn't get sick or really feel that drunk. Actually I slept pretty good too, but I felt absolutely horrible for at least 24 hours no matter what I did to nurse my hangover. Sucked cause it took away from a day of fun if I would have avoided what I assume was a combination of those two or just the stupid hand grenade drink.

Stick to Abita, and you'll wont lose any days to stupid hangovers.

I've stayed at Monteleone and Maison Dupuy.

Also, check out sites like vrbo or homeaway. Stayed at a very nice condo a few weeks ago.

Last time I was there I did the gator tour on those swamp boat which was pretty bad ass. I dont think New Orleans is savage at all. There are a mixture of good and bad people in any city. On my last day in New Orleans I parked my car about 14 feet from a fire hydrant and my car was towed (the law is 15 feet but I just eye ball it and thought it was enough). The storage facility was 12 blocks away and I was just walking there and this random old man offer to drive me there and didnt want to take money.
