Houston trades: C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 17.1 minutes) + 2 2nd rounders Houston receives: C Arvydas Sabonis (6.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.8 apg in 15.5 minutes) Change in team outlook: +1.6 ppg, -1.6 rpg, and +1.5 apg. Portland trades: C Arvydas Sabonis (6.1 ppg, 4.3 rpg, 1.8 apg in 15.5 minutes) Portland receives: C Kelvin Cato (4.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg, 0.3 apg in 73 games) + 2 2nd rounders Change in team outlook: -1.6 ppg, +1.6 rpg, and -1.5 apg. TRADE ACCEPTED Due to Houston and Portland being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston and Portland had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did happen here. This trade satisfies the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement. Houston dumps Cato's salary and frees up room for next year's FA. Portland gets a center with size to hold Shaq. Sweeten the deal with the 2nd rounders the bulls will be giving to us for brice drew.
Studies have shown that basketball players move around better when they have actual cartilage in their knees...
Sabonis is retiring, and his contract can come off the books on August 15th. He would never play, we would just get Cato's contract off the books.
Forget Jason Collier we still have enough money to land Drobnjak or Tyrone Hill, who cares though i like Cato but i wouldnt hesitate for a second to get rid of his contract for next year's FA.
Remember this. There once was a time not too long ago the Blazers dumped Cato while he was still under his rookie contract at about $1.5 million. WHY THE F%#K DO THEY WANT HIM AT $6 MILLION PER YEAR MORE?!?!?!?
Because they have no center with size now, who is gonna guard Shaq? They were already paying Sabonis 7 mil a year anyway. Cato fills in for the same price.
