Does it suck when your best friend since the first grade is a Lakers fan? I used to think so.
The funny thing is, back when the Rockets were hanging banners for a living, the Lakers were talking about rebuilding and making the playoffs again. (okay, truth be told, they did make 8th seed and conveniently knock off the pesky Sonics for us, but that's beside the point) The fact is, the old Van Exel, Divac, Campbell, Jones lineup didn't win a lot of games. I found morbid amusement in the whole thing.
Well, the tables have turned. Don't look now, but the Lakers very well may bust 70 W's. Wasn't too long ago that that was simply unheard of. Record breaking news and all that. Course, the bench-mark is 72 now, but this team doesn't feature His Airness's miraculous grace.
Try Shaq and Kobe. Two guys everyone loves to hate. Just dunks, can't hit free throws. Ball hog, out of control, too flashy. Say what you will, but don't look now, this team is amazing to watch.
I hope the Rockets get back on track VERY soon. It's fun to watch a team rebuild, I think, but I'm ready to get back on the winning track.
But till then, I guess I have to be happy cheering for my best friends team, sitting in his living room, watching Direct TV. Here's hoping it's us again in a couple years...

Actually, it was the Nuggets who knocked off the Sonics...nevertheless, the Lakers are scary.

Is it any coincidence that we are the only NBA (sorry for any confusion regarding my earlier signature, I do realize that the Braves and Stars are both mentioned in the national anthem) team mentioned in the national anthem?

    I didn't think so!

The Lakers did knock them off the following year, but it was a 5 vs. 4 matchup, not an 8 vs. 1.

Ahem.... excuse me for mixing my first-round Sonic woes... Trust me, I never heard the end of it back in the day of how beating the Sonics was their supposed "coming out party"... Whatever... [IMG]
