Beverley has no reason to be grumpy, he didn't perform well as a starter, he is much better in a backup role, which allows him to maximize his hustle and 110% effort playing style. Plus he just got payed big money, bought him self a Rolls Royce and is on a contender... for someone who was playing in Russia not too long ago he should be more then content with his current situation.

If Lawson gets suspended to start the season then I think Bev starts and Lawson comes off the bench for several games. Once Bev comes up with a hamstring issue then Lawson will take over for the rest of the year.

I'd stick with Bev as the starter. If he sucks offensively and the team gets off to bad starts, then you make the switch. But we need a playmaker off the bench when Harden sits and Lawson takes care of that. Then McHale can finish the game with whomever has got it going that night(like Rudy did during the title years with Kenny and Sam).

Bev went from playing in Russia to getting paid $8 million a year on a contending team in, what, 3 years?. I HIGHLY doubt he's going to be mad that we traded for Lawson.

Lawson will probably start but will get pulled early. Then when Harden sits, Lawson immediately takes over.

    Lawson and Harden start.
Lawson sits at the 6 minute timeout. Bev in.
Harden sits at the end of the quarter. Lawson comes in to start the 2nd.
Bev sits at the 6 minute mark. Harden in.
    Repeat in the 2nd Half.
Sprinkle in some minutes for Brewer/Thornton at the SG position.

    Minute totals would ideally be:
    Lawson (~30 - 34 minutes)
    Harden (~34 - 37 minutes)
    Beverley (~18 - 22 minutes)
Brewer / Thornton at the SG postion (~5 - 10 minutes)

I prefer Lawson off the bench, depending on the matchup.

I'd expect Lawson to get staggered minutes with Harden, sort of like how Lin was used when he was here. It's really important for Lawson to be on the floor when Harden is on the bench. When Harden is playing, you want the ball in his hands more often than not. Also, Beverley fits better defensively next to Harden.

lawson starts, gets subbed early, comes back in to end the quarter when harden goes out.

I think there are clear benefits either way depending on the opponent.

For teams with elite PGs it may be better to start Bev and let Lawson play against 2nd units.

For teams with average to below average PGs, start Lawson and take some of the playmaking duties out of Harden's hand, and change the rotation a bit to rest Harden a bit earlier so he maximizes time with Bev.

I think you can go a lot of ways here - our flexibility is phenomenal.

If you envision a rotation like this (assuming 96 minutes at guard):

    Lawson 26
    Harden 34
    Beverley 22
Brewer 8 (and more at 3 to backup Ariza)
    McDaniels 6

You're looking at a very solid PG rotation. Now if we get Terry as our last PG we have one of the most solid backcourt rotations outside of GS

    Err completely forgot about Thornton!!!

Just wow... Bev can cover so many of Thornton's deficiencies on D so the possibilities are limitless

Or you could argue that you don't want to waste Lawson's playmaking on players who can't finish.

We need that instant offense and play making off the bench.

TyLaw off the pine would be awesome!

Morey didn't trade for Lawson to come off the bench. That's not happening. This actually helps Beverly. He can go back to doing what he does best. Use all his energy off the bench to hound opposing guards

McHale won't be able to stagger minutes so it would probably be better for him to come off the bench. He'll start though.

don't get cute and worry too much about "fit". If McHale can't make this work, it's on him.

I actually think he'd be more productive off the bench. Not enough posessions in our first unit to use everyone to their full potential. Lawson is a creator and Thornton is a spot up shooter. Bev should start, not because he's better, but because of fit. We're not trying to become 2014 Rockets again.

I actually believe Lawson coming off the bench wold be perfect, I am concerned about Ty and James defensively on the floor together a lot. That said I am sure it would all work out. Either way Ty needs to see the floor a lot more than Bev and we are stacked. Tjis is exactly what we needed

I think it will vary from team to team and night to night. Having that option is great, and either guy would provide a spark to that second unit. This trade is all kinds of good.
