The answer is usually yes. however if his bat is true they can tolerate some growing pains behind the plate and he likely will have limited input on calling the game. Also often times those that call a good game or frame well don't throw well or block well. There are very very few Johnny Bench types.

Depends on which glasses you read the article with, in my opinion. I'm not a glass empty or a glass full kind of guy. I'm a let's fill the damn glass take big Ol drink and get back to work. I think this is what he's basically saying. Agree or not, your choice.

I agree, I guess my question is more of the fact of the knowledge of each and every player and pitcher. The philosophy of the team towards each opponent, the conversations between coaches, pitchers and catchers when things are going good or bad. All the nuances of being a catcher at the highest level. I do believe sometimes you have to just throw em in and see if they can swim. If the kid keeps hitting , I say push him.

Hopefully Appel has enough faith for two people, because I don't have much left in him.

I'm glad he had an epiphany last year, but is he going to lose his damn mind every time he has a rough stretch?

Tucker's OPS since July 2 is over .700, so he may already be adjusting, or maybe he's just getting some balls to fall in given his BABIP is still down around .200.

One way or the other I suspect his OPS by years end will be up close to or over .700. Even if it isn't, it's not a huge concern.

oh man that appel piece does not inspire confidence. The upside: he has God's heart now. The downside: God's heart is made of 3/4" plywood.

"And as I was replacing this particle board with 3/4 inch oak plywood, something that would withstand baseballs (and much more) being thrown at it, God was telling me, 'This is exactly what I am doing with your heart. Your heart could not withstand what life was throwing at you, but now it can. Your heart will be like my heart.'"

But the real cliffhanger is WHAT ELSE WILL BE THROWN AT THE PLYWOOD???

And maybe he does have an entitlement problem when a bad start raises the theological problem of evil:

"How could a God who loves me unconditionally allow me to go through this? Doesn’t this seem like a bit of injustice for someone who works hard and stays faithful to struggle while other guys across baseball are getting drunk every night and playing great?"

Jason Martin just hit his 7th HR of the year.

I still don't understand why this guy isn't getting much press. When all the prospect writers look back on the season this year, they're going to regret not chatting him up sooner.

He's a prospect with pedigree (8th-round HS pick), and he's posting some awesome peripherals in the Midwest League as a 19 year old. At this point he just needs to move up to Lancaster and hold his own.

also found it funny that he didn't think that their $500 quote was reasonable. millions in the bank, damages somebody else's property, and has the gall to tell them that he doesn't want to pay $500 to replace it.

they should have told him to eff off and choke up the cash.

It was a piece of plywood. I wouldn't pay a guy $500 on principle.

he paid over 100 anyway. 500 isn't that ridiculous, for labor and a professional to do the job. anything's going to be substantially cheaper if you do it yourself (and if you're allowed to do it yourself).

Why is it weird, do you always bad mouth something then call it weird when someone calls you out? I think you're way off on the Appel article and the way you're talking to me. I will stand by my statement that you need to take it somewhere else. Just because you've not seen me on this site doesn't mean I'm not here. That's all I'm saying about this topic.

no, it's weird that you are acting like i'm the one telling you to leave, when it was the opposite.

i'll think whatever the hell i want about the appel article, thank you. looks like at least 4 other posters on here share my sentiments.

hope he somehow turns into Cy Young for my Astros, but, as for that article, he should have titled it "Confessions of a Huge P***y".
