Clutch, I'm curious where you fall on the Lawson issue.
1.) Are you deterred by the DUIs?
2.) do you like the fit?
3.) Do you think the Rockets are interested?

No. It's not agent speak necessarily. LA is after stars and Lawson is quite probably the biggest they can land now. They need a star to land another star next offseason. No big FA will come running to go play with Randle and Russell (who btw both looked AWFUL so far).

    rehab, shocker!

Judge orders Lawson to be on monitored sobriety. Lawson's lawyer says he is going to enter a "program" tomorrow
It's a 30-day residential program that will "ensure his sobriety"
Judge Doris Burd says she wants verification that he enters the Malibu, Cali program tomorrow
Lawson is next due in court Aug 20.
Lawson will be heading to Cliffside, a luxury drug and rehab center in Malibu, tomorrow, city prosecutors say. He'll be there for 30 days.
Judge Burd ordered that Lawson start in home alcohol monitoring at the completion of the rehab stint.

Good. Regardless if he comes to the Rockets or not, I wish this works out for him because he really needs help right now.
And he seems he's not going to end up in jail.

He is worse than Lawson defensively, especially over the course of their respective careers.

There is literally not one piece of objective data to back up your claim unless you only examine their rookie years. Collison was a better defender (though far less effective passer) by any overall defensive metric you can think of last year - as well as the two years prior.

He got off relatively easy. Hopefully this will help him.

This guy is behaving himself out of the league. The current contract is pretty decent if Lawson had no substance abuse issues, but it is pretty toxic (no pun intended) right now. No gm in their right mind would trade for him now.

While the second California arrest was mentioned, this was actually a hearing on Lawson's first DUI of the year, back in January. He'll still have to face a separate hearing in California in late August for the second charge, though perhaps the completed rehab stint will work in his favor.

Burn. Had a twitter exchange with Mannix earlier this year where he was adamant that Rondo>Lowry. Dude gets paid to be a lead nba writer for one of the top sports sites in the world.

Key thing about Ty Lawson is he shows up against really good teams.

Yup, he's always too drunk to know he should be nervous. Works like a charm.

    Jonathan Feigen:

You're Daryl, you theoretically need an upgrade at PG, Lawson is out there. 2 years left, 2 recent DUIs, do you think the Rockets would be interested and would trade for him?

Sure and absolutely. Price changes though. You have to make the money match to a guy who makes $12.4M. It's complicated. If you're the Nuggets, why do you trade him when his value is at the lowest it's been? If you're the Rockets, you can't offer a good or great 1st round pick. Not that Lawson is Harden but when they traded for Harden, they offered a pick that many predicted would be in the top 10. It fell from 7 to 12. We thought the Pelicans pick would be good. They don't have anything good to offer. It's real complicated. Very little reason to think anything will happen but otherwise, yeah, they'd be interested.

    Do they look somewhere else?

A lot of teams will look to steal him. It becomes the direction of their ownership. If these problems continue, you're not getting much. He's a good player in a lot of ways. He's not an all-around player but his strengths are real. On the court, you know what you're getting. The feeling in Vegas, before he went to rehab, they're asking for more than anyone is offering. ... They aren't taking the last four at the end of your bench. It's complicated. A lot of moving parts when a player, before too long, would be expendable. Other teams would be able to put together something better. The other thing is, why would you overspend for a guy like that when you don't know if he's in real trouble but also who's not a great fit next to Harden. For $12M, you'd like him to be a great fit (catch and shoot).

Why is he not a great fit? He's a ball-in-hand guy and excels at penetration. He's not a spot up guy, he's a PG. You need a ball handler who can set Harden up. Why is he not a great fit?

All the reasons you just said. Not a catch and shoot guy. Harden draws the defense. If you let Lawson do what he does best, then Harden is not doing what he does well. He's a PG who creates in the half and open court, they don't have that. Beverley will be better at creating for himself but he doesn't break down the D and draw an extra defender and pass to the open guy. He'll be better this year than last when he slid back but he's not Lawson.

In a perfect world, who is that guy that is attainable?

Not sure who the attainable version is. It doesn't have to be help at PG, it could be anyone who creates offense. Maybe it's more movement, high post,... they were too stagnant in the half court. It doesn't have to be a PG. Perfect fit and attainable, who is that?

    Summer league?

Very little Rockets can take from there. Harrell is getting back into shape. He shows flashes. Better jump shot than his reputation. He looks like a guy who will belong and can eventually help. Alan Williams has a chance to make a team, not sure it's this one. He's a good kid and someone you'd like to see do well. Overall, very little you can take from SL [with Dekker, Capela, Johnson out]. ... Can Nick play the point, run an offense, has his shot improved?

I wish I could say there is no way Morey goes into the season with this roster but I'm pretty confident this is what will happen. Going to be even harder to win in the West this year too.

I hope Terrence Jones is in the mix to get Lawson.
