Agreed, which is why defense will be key.

It seems highly unlikely he'll anything amazing offensively, but appears he can at least hold his own, not turn the ball over, be in the right place at the right time and make the occasionally play, and box out and rebound.

But if he can't defend, he won't play.

But DM prides himself on finding these types of guys, and its important more now than ever.

Not that it's a lock Williams is on the team, or that DM would have offered Smith more if Williams sucked, but the play of Williams in the summer league had to give DM at least a little bit of comfort... just a teeny little bit.

One thing that made Smith so troubling was his complete lack of consistency. Great teams are consistent... in how they prepare, think about the game, and the effort and play they put in. Even in bad games, they are doing consistent things... just the shot isn't falling or luck is going the other teams way.

Williams strikes me as a guy who will be very consistent. But at the NBA level, it might not be consistently good enough to matter.

i feel like alan williams is one of those guys that creates points out of nothing. it doesn't look pretty in game but you look back on the box score and are like ' how did this dude get 16 pts?'

We have the priority to sign him right? He has earned himself a spot in a nba team for sure.

There is no priority for summer league contract.

If Cuban will see this thread and decide to offer him a max contract, he can sign it right away.

The Rockets signed Wood to a partial guaranteed contract and yes they have the priority on him I believe.

I don't think Williams got a better contract than a summer league contract, which is what normally 5-8K?

I had the same thought also.

Is this kind of thinking by Morey (or rather say its his ego) be ultimately one of the factors he decided to spend the money on guys like KJ or even take a gamble on Williams than Josh?

Because from analytic point of view, Josh is really a nightmare even though he keep making things happened.

But at the end, Morey never forced to ask for the player of Josh, he was just came here by "accident".

If Morey will have a choice, of course he will still go back to his system and trust himself more?

Greg Smith can only dunk wide open shoots under the basket while having 2 legs made out of glass.

    They have nothing similar.

I wasn't comparing them, just curious if Williams is any better as I'm not watching the games.

But I'm taking your post as a yes he is.

He looks like a trash player, then you see his box score and are confused as hell.

The Rockets should go ahead and lock him up and make him Chuck Hayes' shadow. Coach Chuck will get him right.

Dwight Powell is another name I liked in the summer league,

in fact he played better than Capela in the D league last year but of course the leap and growth of Capela showing in the playoff is just incredible.

I won't be surprised to see Powell will be the Mavs starting C in the second half of the season, especially when they will need to tank and play new guys.

Thanks for the info man! Morey better sign him quick before he reaches agreement with other team. Then, cut Dorsey.

    Sign Williams today.

He has Dorsey's rebounding, with Glen Davis's touch around the basket. Can't go wrong with good rebounding and a soft touch from a rookie, he has a good foundation to build on.

A guy that has a soft touch and then is so active on the offensive glass...gets an auto spot on this team. Alan Williams emergence as a 15 man roster candidate now forces the Rockets to find new homes for guys on this roster: Dorsey...im looking at you bro..

The way he plays in the post reminds me a lot of "Big" Al Jefferson
