Stretching Lawson would leave $4.4 million on the cap. That means trading Brewer and Ariza to make max contract space. These are the sorts of considerations the Rockets staff get paid to think on and why it's probably smarter to trust them after all they've done rather than the posters here who are still pining for Mo Williams and "things to get done."

Without Paul George and Lance Stephenson this year, George Hill had a higher ORPM than Lawson. He proved he can create shots for himself and others if he is called upon. He's also the better shooter and obviously much better defender. And he makes less. And he's not at risk of not playing in the NBA anymore.

So yeah, I'd take Hill over Lawson too.

Probably been said in this thread already, but this article sounds like propaganda leaks put out by the Nuggets to try to drive interest.

I still think they waive him and we go after him as an FA.

Please, Houston don't do it! Lol.
This feels like a Rondo-Mavs thing to me.

What makes you think he will come here as an FA?

To get max space at least 2 of ariza/brewer/Bev would have to go anyway regardless of a $4.4 cap hit.

What's a package we think that can get honestly get it done at this point? We had lamb coming off a huge summer league. & 1st round picks on deck from lotto team (us & raptors). Besides fillers what would they want ? Don't keep up with them do they need a forward ?

Dekker - couldn't play summer league, back injury
    Nick -couldn't showcase in summer
    DMO - back surgery "expiring"
    Tjones - "expiring"
    Pick - our late 1st rounder 2016
    Harell- showed something summer league

Howard wil opt out we will have room. Will look good to have Lawson, Ariza, harden on roster to attract another player then. Reggie Jackson is getting $18mill now.

Oh, I dunno. Perhaps Capela, DMo, Dekker, and filler like Jones and Kostas, and then let them sign McDaniels. And you know, if that don't get 'er done we can always throw in the 2016 pick too.

    LOL

Get real. Denver would GLADLY take Kostas/Pablo/Dorsey/Johnson at this point.

Don't think trading Jones is that big a deal. There's a few decent PFs still available on the market:

    Chuck Hayes
    Carlos Boozer
Luc Mbah a Moute (contract voided)
    Tyler Hansbrough

And don't forget the guys that could be bought out. Good chance Carl Landry and/or Jason Thompson get a deal done with the 76ers.

If he can keep his head on straight this is a no brainer deal. He is underpaid relative to his value, he brings exactly what we need on offense and would make us a top 3 team in the league. Plus we would only have to give up scraps to get him. A lot of people have concerns about his defense..well we brought back beverley. Who can go now go balls to the wall full court press defense for 20 min a night. I still don't know if you do it. I just don't know if guys like this can change. They are addicts, common sense doesn't apply to their actions.

Lawson in LA would be a bad mood based on environment, he lives out there with all his friends goes out a lot, he even said if he went to MIA vs Denver he would off because of surroundings. But hey lakers still may trade him for clarkson in a package

I've posted this before, but this is ESPN insider's scouting report (caveat, based on 2013-2014 season, and his stats took a dip last year.

    Scouting report
+ Super-quick point guard with low center of gravity.
+ Tough to contain off dribble. Keeps defenses honest with pull-up ability.
+ Made major strides as a playmaker during 2013-14.

    Analysis
During the first season of a four-year, $48 million extension, Ty Lawson was well worth the money to the Nuggets when he was on the court. Only a series of injuries that cost him 20 games marred arguably Lawson's finest season as a pro at age 26. The sprained ankle he suffered in April has lingered and may hamper Lawson in 2014-15.

With the ball, Lawson is headed to the hoop until or unless the defense cuts him off. According to SportVU player tracking, Lawson averaged a league-high 10.6 drives per game, utilizing his quickness to get to the paint. Once there, Lawson was looking to dish more than in past seasons, improving his assist rate from 8.7 percent of Denver's plays to 10.4 percent, which ranked seventh in the NBA among players with at least 500 minutes. Lawson had a slightly tougher time when he did try to finish around the basket (his shooting percentage inside three feet dropped below 60 percent for the first time, to 57.5 percent, per Basketball-Reference.com), possibly because he was banged up.

Opponents can't drop too far off Lawson because he likes to shoot 3s off the dribble, the reason his percentage has slipped to the 36 percent range after he shot 40-plus percent during his first two NBA seasons, largely in catch-and-shoot situations. Though undersized for a point guard at a listed 5-foot-11, Lawson is not a defensive liability. His strength and low center of gravity help him against bigger opponents, and Lawson has always posted good steal rates.

Takeaway: Character issues aside, he's not a perfect fit, but pretty damn close.

    Create off the dribble? Check
Good set 3 point shooter? Check
    Drive and kick? Check
Defense? Check..minus, but maybe not as bad as everyone says, especially when engaged. But that's why you have Bev as his foil. If he played lockdown defense, then he'd be too expensive!

You must have not watched the playoffs and saw just how important the power forward position is. You can't just plug in anybody and get production that Smith and Jones (before the rib injury ) gave. Boozer would be nice to have off the bench but we can't afford to lose Jones

Do the Nuggets have the roster spots available to pull that off? If the Lakers want in, then Clarkson trumps that and if the Nuggets could get Jennings straight up for Lawson they would do that over our theoretical salary dump offer.

If the Nuggets would take that plus a first rounder or two, then I would say do it. The Rockets can always buy back into the first round at where they would have been picking anyways.
