What's he supposed to do if Smith goes for less money? It's clear Smith had little intention of re-signing with us, despite the reports saying otherwise.

The first one that comes to mind is the Aaron Brooks trade.

Hes not easily replaceable. (See T.jonej) and he chose to come off the bench for the betterment of the team.He is a starter on every team without an all star already at that spot.He is just as important as the above mentioned, 4th best player on the team, Ariza.
Dmo is a big IF and should be until further info/notice.

I appreciate what Josh did those 2 games in the playoffs. Alley oop game vs the Mavs and game 6 at Clippers. I will say this however. There were nights where it seemed like Smith was the best player on the other team. Boneheaded turnovers, bricks for days, never bothers to box out, just insanely inconsistent.

so he took less money to backup Blake on the Clips as opposed to resigning with Houston?

I dont Think money ever attempted to resign josh smith. Honestly last season, because of the playoff success the Rockets had, we didn't realized that Morey never was able to make any great deals. Brewer trade was ok even though he was big for us and Josh Smith was all luck. Since Dwight, we always thought Morey was some kind of genius that is a wizard. But I think he's just an average GM who misses way more than he makes. There were too many times he failed to address the issue.

Last season was good because of the luck of josh smith landing here and James harden playing out of his mind. If Morey wants the rockets to improve from last season, he needs to make moves and built upon last year. But I doubt Morey will find anything other than cheap band aids moves.

Well, what about the guy that helped carry the team when we had no Josh Smith or Dwight Howard?

I think that guy is better than Josh Smith and Morey does not have to make any moves to get that guy on the team next year.

It's not like Dwight can go to the Clippers. All of them winding up in Dallas seems farfetched. What does worry me though is that the one thing that could drive Dwight to another team next summer is a first round flameout. And with the Warriors, Spurs, Grizzlies, Clippers, and possibly Thunder all better than us at the moment, that's certainly possible. Remember, the Spurs had a very good regular season last year(55 wins), were the defending champs, and lost in the first round. Would anyone pick the Rockets to beat those other 4 teams in the playoffs as they're currently constructed? I know I wouldn't.

See what being cute got you Morey, absolutely nothing. If we dont have a successful season next year it'll be because we chose "flexibility" over winning. I'm sure Smith felt insulted by us chasing LMA and the lack of interest we had in resigning him

Not sure if already posted in this thread, but it was JONES who got abused by Blake in those 1st 4 games. That is the primary reason why McHale went with Smoove in Games 5-7 of that LAC series, facing elimination.

The Rockets just beat the Clippers in the playoffs so you can't tell me Josh went to the Clippers to win a ring. He had just as much of a chance to win a ring by staying on the Rockets.

Bottom line: Morey lowballed him. He's gone. Rockets have taken two steps back to the middle of the pack.

This is why you can't blame Morey on this one. Clearly the reports were all wrong. Josh had little to no intention of re-signing with us, which is very strange, but clearly the case.

I know and if we had a healthy D-Mo we probably don't need a freaking miracle to beat the Clippers in the 1st place. D-Mo is better than Smith. I had a love/hate with Smith. He really is a role player some nites he gets you over the hump but sometimes he thought he was a star and he would throw the ball in the 3rd row passing up an easy play. No doubt he played great in the 2nd half of game 5 but he will be replaced by a guard that Harden asked for plus McHale answered point blank this team could NOT go into next season with so many bigs that can't hit clutch freethrows.

Morey is no dummy he would take he for cheap but he is saving every nickel for BIG fish.
