Tigers Downed by Yao Dunk-a-thon by: Tigers The Melbourne Tigers were defeated by the Chinese National Team for the second straight game when they were beaten 94-77 in Jinjiang last night (Friday). Our on the road reporter and young Tigers star Daryl Corletto (the only one unlucky to have his phone on early every morning, hence he gets the phone calls!) says the game followed a similar pattern to the last one, with China starting strongly, at one stage out to a 16 point lead in the second quarter. However, the Tigers fought back and cut the deficit to just 2 points in the last quarter, before the locals hit three three pointers in a row in the last two minutes to blow out the margin. Mark Bradtke incurred the wrath of the officials, having 4 fouls by early in the third quarter. But Daryl says it was the Yao show, with the superstar having at least twenty points from dunks alone; it was a dunk-rampage and Daryl says Yao was just awesome. Andrew Gaze lead the scorers with 17 points, Dave Smith 14, Mark Bradtke 12 and Daryl Corletto 10. Whilst there may have been a little doubt about some of the calls, it seems both teams were on the receiving end this time, unlike game one. It is reported that one Chinese player 'did a Carey', hitting a three from at least a foot and a half out of court! The stadium of around 5,000 was sold out. The team have a tough travel day today, with a bus trip, two flights and another bus trip. The next game is in Hefei tomorrow (Sunday) night
"yao ming can't stop shaq's dunk-a-thon" "phoenix suns throw down a dunk-a-thon on rocket's yao ming" "yao ming tastes the lakers awesome dunk-a-thon"
LOL - the line "did a Carey" is a complete pisser! For those who have nfi what this line is about (ie anyone who doesn't live in Australia), last week Wayne Carey won a football game for his team by kicking a goal (6 points) after the ball went over the point line (1 point) and should've been ruled "dead". His team won by 4 points... I hope that makes sense
Hrmm the NBL (australian league) should've sent over a better team.. but then again most of the teams over here are filled with american ex-pat's, so it probably would've been a true show of talent.. Just to get off the point a little bit more, I wish the Bball players over here would get a hell of a lot better so it would get people back into basketball
Yao had a dunk a thon. Nice. I hope he brings that aggressive style of play this coming year. Yao needs to "throw in down Big Man" a lot more than he did last year. His scoring would definately increase.
What, u havn't heard of Andrew Bogut? He single handedly won U19 championships. Future top 5 pick they say.....
This is encouraging as hell. Of course, i don't see Yao nabbing "20 pts. from dunks alone" in an NBA game anytime soon, but at least he's dunking. I guess his leg isn't killing him too bad... that report was still troubling, though. Hurry up and finish, stupid Asian tournament.
