I think GSW got under the tax by trading David Lee to Boston.

Not exactly. Like I've been saying all day, I'm fine with Morey waiting to get a PG and going the trade route. But(and that's a very big BUT) he's now at the mercy of other teams. If OKC doesn't wanna deal with the Rockets and they can find a willing partner elsewhere, we get the shaft and are still looking for a PG.

Your right I think I am getting desperate to see movement. I have to just trust the process.

If not Smart, then let's get Terry Rozier.

Minny can offer KJ 4/18 today and if they could dump another contract they could offer him 4/24 or even more.

Yes. Very athletic and solid defender. Has no range on his shot though.

with what leverage? they'd need to shed cap to keep kanter. no one else is giving them any sort of lucrative offer. they can choose to take someone else's 2nd round pick instead of ours...but who else is even offering?

the point is, we could've rushed 3 days ago and agreed to send papanikalou for mo williams.

or hypothetically send a 2nd round pick for dj augustin and then jones prig and pap for Taj Gibson or Wilson Chandler. being patient has its value.

all the numbers I have seen suggest that Minny doesn't have capspace to poison pill. Where did you get these numbers?
I am not doubting you because I didn't calculate them myself , but I would like to see if there's a chart with teams capspace or smth that you get it from.

OK, but that is not really a poison pill contract. 4/18 is 4.5 average. 4/24 is 6 average. I think others are focused on worst case poison pills of 3/28 or 4/47.

From who? I'm seriously starting to doubt it. I really like KJ, but he hasn't shown much more than that he's a good dunker. Even in the modern NBA, giving him a poison pill seems ridiculous.

Especially if you back loaded the 4/18 or 4/24 in a poison pill way it would be really easy for the Rockets to match with the cap going up in a few years. Only the max poison pill is worrisome

The closest example is Jeremy Lin.

waiting bears fruits but OKC can find plenty of takers for dj augustin.
Utah needs a backup pg ASAP i.e and there are Dallas Portland even, Denver Philly who would like to have him to use him later in trades. So no. Rockets isn't the only one willing to offer a deal with them.

The second trade idea i like but you should know that Taj Gibson had a surgery this summer in his ankles and is not yet certain if he will be ready in octomber. I see one of Taj or Noah getting traded but wouldn't expect to the Rockets.

My understanding is the only way to make the salary jump in the 3rd and 4th year is to have offered the full MLE max in the first 2 years. They can't offer 2/2/10/10.

Fair enough, even more of a reason why the max poison pill is the only thing the Rockets probably don't match.....but is a team willing to tie up 12 mil a year in cap space for KJ?

    yes that's also my understanding.
Minny is not an option. Perhaps they could trade Benett to the Pacers or smth and make something work but I doubt it.
They also have Lavine, Wiggins and Shabbaz in these positions. They shouldn't target Kj.

i can agree with that. my point is we shouldn't rush to do something because it happens to be available. a lot of fans wanted mo williams two days ago, when augustin could potentially be had for cheaper. the focus should be seeing what smith and KJ do, and then address our needs accordingly.

interesting that cyber is saying kj will get a lot of money. he's a second year player who rode the bench for us last year. i understand the philly references but philly fields a lot of d league talent so kj obviously looked much better i comparison.

i don't really know why we need him anyways. re-signing brewer and drafting dekker should make kj irrelevant
