But I thought with bird rights we can match his contract regardless of cap implications

We don't have KJ McDaniels bird rights. It takes two years on the same team or under the same contract to get early bird rights. It takes 3 years on the same team or under the same contract to get full bird rights.

Since KJ has only been in the league for one season, no bird rights exist.

According to a mutual friend of DeAndre and mine whom I called this afternoon to get the scoop, this is exactly what happened. Fegan was pushing DJ to Dallas for months. My friend went so far as to say that Cuban was pretty clearly guilty of tampering in the situation because he and DF had an agreement that DJ would come to DAL this offseason back in January, although I'm not sure that's anything that will be alleged much less proven.

Home. He (reportedly) wanted Houston. Spurs were a non-starter. Mavs only alternative.

I was fine with him making the decision based on wanting to get (close) to his roots. The gent is 26 years old. He is allowed some indecision. He deserves a break. Seriously.

(But, it has made the day fun!)

The power of the agents is out of control.

If the players were smart, they would agree in the next CBA that players are forbidden to enter into contracts with agents at exceed .5% of earnings, whether NBA or otherwise.

The agents need to be put back in thier place.

That honestly does not surprise me. Fegan and Cuban are petty SOBs... I low key hope DJ re-signs with Clips and leaks that crap to the media. Hope he fires Fegan too.

Unlikely to happen, but one could hope..

    He said it earlier.
" focus on retaining the team "
    - he has to go through one year of being a bit dormant. You know.. So they are not just assets.

Let the dust settle. I sense small, but impactful acquisitions, then mid season- SPLASH.

Quick question: Can the Rockets still match any offer KJ gets if he signs an offer sheet tonight at midnight?

As long as the Rockets have all of their MLE then they can match any offer KJ gets from any other team.
