The trend of Congressmen not talking across the aisle started with Gingrich as Speaker. He pretty much enforced his own party rule of not fraternizing with the enemy. Republicans-then had a moralist hardon against the Clintons for being evil and corrupt. That nickname Slick Willie was well earned before the Lewinsky scandal because all the crazy charges Republicans pinned on him never stuck.
LOL... my wife is a conservative Republican. We laugh at the thought our votes cancel out each others. She is sad our oldest daughter has followed me in politics, at least. Her only hope now is to brainwash our younger daughter... :grin:
If you are curious, there is a book on the subject called "The Gingrich Senators" by one of the Government professors at Texas, named Sean Theriault, where he analyzes the way that Gingrich has affected the partisan state of Congress into the present day. Quick read and very interesting.
