He is a free agent, I don't disagree with you....... only saying that the league has the discretion to bring the hammer down on the Clippers if they choose to.

There are so many variables we do not know.... for all we know the Clippers have been in constant contact with the league, or the NBA under Silver may be different than under Stern, he is a fairly new commish.

Personally I am just interested to see the fallout.......... there will be more losers than winners in this situation.

This is how I see it exactly. I'm fine with them killing the moratorium period...I think they should, honestly.

But that's on the league...this isn't unprecedented. They knew full well this could happen at any point. They're all big boys with big boy lawyers and lots of money behind them.

If you're not under a contract, you're a free agent. The man hasn't signed a contract.

He doesn't know what he's talking about. This has happened before with just as big a name and the NBA did nothing and couldn't do anything. Teams have tried to change players mind every year and people are only making a big deal when it works. He has the right to work wherever he chooses and until he signs a contract, there is not a damned thing the NBA can or will do until they change the CBA for the future. (which they didn't change the other times this has happened)

Pick any page- lots of posters saying they will no longer watch the NBA, some others saying Dirk will retire if this happens and Mavs will be irrelevant for years to come (which is true anyways). Gotta love it, though.

They'll do that and punish the Clips. Cuban will demand it. Can't wait for the first game the Clips play at Dallas next season.

Gonna be funny watching the corpse of Dirk Nowitzki be the primary option for the Mavs this year.

Cuban got a $25K fine for messing around with free agents before he should have. That's pocket change for owners.

I could see something similar for the Clippers maybe...but, assuming DJ really did contact them to say he made a mistake and was pressured into the deal by his agent...then I can't see the NBA actually following through with a punishment in excess of that $25K fine that Cuban got for effing around in the first place over the very same guy.

You might be right. If it was a fine, I might eat it. If it was draft picks, though...I think I'd fight long and hard and say "you need to change your rules that allowed this instead of punishing me for staying within the lines"

i seriously don't understand how this is such a hard decision for DJ. The clippers are clearly the better basketball situation. he's got a coach that has his back and is loyal to a fault at times and he's playing with 2 of the best 10 players in the league.

here's hoping he comes out of left field and signs with the sixers

    Just a bizarre statement.

Maybe the league can punish James Harden if he makes a free throw?

You are basically saying the league can punish anyone they want, regardless of whether a rule was broken?

A player is a free agent during the moratorium.

Let's also not forget that this has actually happened before without punishment.

I am not making my own rules because I am not arguing about the rules, I am not even arguing that Jordan is violating any LEGAL agreement .......... I am saying that the league has wide latitude to punish a team if they choose to do so. The league has stepped in before.

Please cite an example of the NBA stepping in and punishing a team for not violating any rules.
