Have any of you ever had "sun poisoning"? And if so, how did you treat it?

I went fishing for about 3 hours at Sabine on Tuesday and, unfortunately, I forgot my sunscreen.

For the first 24 hours after I thought I just had a bad sunburn, but around wednesday night my skin started to develop lots of blisters all over it (mainly my shoulders, which were in the sun the longest).

I'm in extreme pain, so much that I cannot even sleep at night. My shoulders are constantly wet and dripping with puss from the tons of blisters. I cannot even put on a shirt, move my hands above my head, and I even have trouble driving (turning the steering wheel is a major task now).

I've been using aloe constantly, but now that the blisters are in effect I cannot put aloe on them anymore (well, I could, but it hurts like @$*^!). I bought some cortizone 10 recently and started using it, it helps relieve the burning sensation and itchyness.. but my sores are still very much there and getting worse as the hours go by. I heard soaking in a cold bath helps, but I do not have a bathtub, only a shower stall, which has helped, but water -falling- on my skin is also painful.

If anyone knows of any tricks or tips I'd be incredibly interested in hearing them.

Funny how you should mention it...

Doesn't sound like it's moderate enough, but get some raw tomato slices and rub it all over the red areas. Again, this is for moderate sunburns, and it does work.

The redness that is the sunburn will soon (usually within hours) become a tan.

Again, it sound like yours are more than moderate, and I can't help you on that. Otherwise, get some heirlooms, romas, or whatever is your favorite.

Yes, I got it from The View. *sigh* :(

I would go to the emergency room or an urgent care center, or call a doctor's office. Your post just hurts.

Sounds like you might have actually gotten some deep tissue burns.

You should see a doctor immediatly before it gets infected and you end up with scars all over.

Have you been vomiting? I ask this because usually with sun poisoning comes vomiting. May not actually be sun poisoning just second or third degree burn that needs to be treated by a doctor.

I've heard that going back out into the blistering sun will reverse the effects. . . magically.

Seriously, I would call a dermatologist.

    Solarcaine. That stuff works.

About eight years ago, the same thing happened to me. I couldn't sleep. Hard to drive. I tried going to work, but then they made me go home when they saw blood oozing through the back of my white shirt.

Solarcaine was a god-send. It didn't make the pain go away entirely, but it really helped.

    feel better!

Yikes. You know, everyone else might be right. I know going to the doctor's sucks, but wouldn't it suck even worse if you found that you have some lifetime scars, permanent burn tissue? And that you could have prevented it by an hour's trip to see a doctor?

Just throwin' it out there . . .

this might be kind of gruesome to some people, but I thought I should post a picture of my affliction so those telling me to go to the doctor might realize what I'm dealing with.

    Sunburn

I don't know if this is going to scar, I just bought some of that solarcaine stuff.. it stings pretty bad :(

Oooh... I spent the whole day at Waterworld the day after I shaved my head waaaay back when and wound up like that on my scalp. One of the stupidest things I've ever done. Had trouble sleeping for a couple of weeks.

    Good luck.

So, you used Solarcaine when the warning clearly stated that you should not?

Rub some butter on your skin (stay moist) and watch out for Newman. ;)
