Being on of the Rocket's overseas fans, I am obliged to scout for talent overseas when the Rockets are not!! Here is the deal, This guys name is Maggdy Ahmed, he is a shooting guard for the "Al-Ahly" Basketball club in Egypt. Even though the talent here is mainly raw, this guy is a hell of a shooter, he is about 6'5" with great vertical leap. He is a pure fundemental player, when he shoots he pretty much does not miss. He shoots in people's faces, which is a greatly needed talent in the NBA's tough defensive talent. He is the closest thing to a Stojakovic, a pure shooter. What distinguishes this guy is his ability to take over games and rack up points very quickly. He is also a floor leader and full of energy, he is aggressive on defense but prefer to play the passing lanes rather than a great 1-on-1 defensive player. Egypt does not have a great basketball reputation like most European teams do, but this guy is something else. He is still young at only 19, but I think that if NBA scouts actually look at the Egyptian Basketball League, they might see this guy. After all, remember, the Rockets found the Dream by luck in a place most would have not looked at.
Sigh. Interesting thought, that the Rockets 'found' Olajuwon in such an unlikely place as the UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON.. Even UH didn't 'find' Hakeem, he found them. Perhaps that's nitpicky, since the point of the original post is obviously the fact that 'you can sometimes find talent in unusual places.' However, since the poster has such determination to talk politics, AND his/her political beliefs are so clearly wrong, it would be extrememely difficult to take anything he/she said about anything else seriously, even basketball. People who want to publicly expose their political beliefs to the world would be doing themselves and everyone else a favor by learning a little history first.
What are you talking about Nero? Do you think you know what is right and true in an international confllict of two sides that has lasted for more than fifty years?? This Egyptian guy sounds like a nice player. It´d be fun if he made it to the leage. I could say I heard of him long before.
Hey Nero, no disrespect, it is not that I am flaunting my personal beliefs, it is just that that is something I put early on in my profile and donot mean it as a disrespect. I respect your opinion but you gotta respect mine too without belitteling my comments about basketball because of my political beliefs. Two completely unrelated subjects. There is a senior member on Clutchcity.net who has a comment that makes fun of Arabs & Muslims, I took no offense to that and registered it as his personal opinion. Let's just stick to basketball from now on please. Thanks
Interesting, Depends on whose you are reading! My advice is to read from both sides, because history is differently recorded and stated from one side to the other.
Ahmed Ishmail is pretty good and more refined probably since he has been around longer, but he is also a forward and is 6'7" and has actually played this past month in July in two summer Leagues: The Long Beach SL, and the Orlando SL. He is estimated at 6'4" and is a sharp shooter (but you never know how he would rack up against NBA shooters). I have not followed Ahmed Ishmail this past SL, did you see him play and if so how did he perform?
After all, remember, the Rockets found the Dream by luck in a place most would have not looked at. Sorry for the clutter, just doing a test.
I made the refrence wrong, what I meant is that Hakeem was found in an unlikely place, and fate led him to the city of Houston and then the Rockets.
Didn't the Rockets have some Lebonese guy on their summer league roster last year? What happen to that guy?
