I would like to tell you that I'm clean for 2 months now from the most addictive substance on earth. NOSE SPRAY! First it was Afrin, then I moved up to 12 hour Vicks Sinex that has the same formula as Afrin (regular Sinex does not) plus it has the cool, soothing menthol. I was pumping this stuff at least twice a day, and my wife had to carry a bottle for me in her purse when we'd go out so I wouldn't get stuck in a restaurant or movie theater without being able to breath through my nose. I'd like everybody else that might have this problem to know that I have discovered the solution! Cold turkey didn't work; saline solution...BAH! The thing that worked was Nasonex from my doctor. It got rid of the problems that were causing the symptoms rather than just the syptoms. I used it every night for about a month, and now I can go without using the Nasonex and sleep nose spray free. Just thought everybody would like to hear my story of personal triumph.
My sister had the same problem a few years ago and the same solution. After she got addicted to them I vowed to never use them again and I never have. Stuffy noses are the worst effects of colds.
I've been using Nasacort from the doc. Most amazing thing ever. Anyone know of any negative effects of using the stuff longterm?
Yes, you begin to lose your affinity to the Rockets of yesteryear and join the rest of us in the present...
Nasal cortisteroids do have a long term effect on bone density, so if you are a weight lifter you might want to talk to your doctor. I don't think the difference will matter though unless you are trying to increase your deadlift.
My doc said that once you get off the over the counter nasal sprays on to cortisteroids...and you lose the addiction, you should then only use the cortisteroids during allergy season to minimize the total use of it.
