Hey Rocket fans, I like the two moves we've made. I think both the players we have aquired will be good for the team. But does anyone think there will be a move that's unexpected or anything? A move to get us in the spotlight? I'm not saying if we don't make a "big" move we can't go into the playoffs you know. I believe we have a very young team that has taken a few years to gel, and mature together. How do you all think we'll do this year by the way?

Probly not a big move, but 1 or 2 more small moves. We'll make the playoffs this year and then get kicked out in the first or second round... probly the first.

The "Big Move" could be as far away as the Feb. trade deadline.

The only 'spotlight' I am interested in is the one that showcases the first round of the playoffs. All the other national attention doesn't matter, since ESPN usually screws Houston sports teams anyway.

As far as another move, if Mark Jackson comes cheap, I'd like to sign him. I can't think of any other PG's that would be worth the money or the headache.

imo, there's a good chance a trade will go through today, before 5pm. why else is CD holding off on his decision to resign posey??? there's no way they match the $24M to add posey after they signed pike/AGruff.

imo, there's a very good chance mobley could be packing his bags this afternoon. the only thing i'm not sure about is whether it would be for a PG or a PF.

a PG would allow steve to move to the 2, and posey to be resigned at the starting 3. pike becomes the b/u 2, AGruff the b/u 3.

    PG: tba/remainder of MLE signing
    SG: francis/pike
    SF: posey/AGruff
    PF: motay/griff
    C: yao/cato

I am sure I am missing something, why does holding off on the posey deal, mean that a trade could go down? A possible sign and trade? Not criticizing, just trying to see where your coming from...

As we need a better backup PG, and could use an upgrade at the forward spots, and have signed two players who could take all of Mobley's minutes at the 2, I know the Rockets organization is looking into other trades.

For example, Memphis is looking to get more athletic. We're probably going to become more D-oriented, stolid; and players like Battier and Swift are on the block.

So, yeah, we're looking. I don't buy into the "JVG will want to see what he's got before he trades it." JVG knows what he has, and although he can make it better, why keep trying to fit square pegs into round holes when you don't necessarily have to?

Besides, it was only a week ago Wednesday that the coaching staff and management all got together in Houston.

Now, will a deal get done? Big maybe.

    by position...

    point guards: steve, gremlin
shooting guards: cuttino, steve, pike, boki
small forwards: rice, AGruff, pike, EG, boki
    power forwards: EG, motay
    centers: yao ming, kelvin cato

signing james posey would be redundant. we already have a defender of equal (if not greater, imo) capability in AGruff. why resign posey? that would likely leave us with the following depth chart:

    PG: steve, gremlin
    SG: cuttino, pike
    SF: posey, AGruff, rice
    PF: EG, motay
    C: yao, cato

sure, that's not a bad lineup, but is it worth 6 yrs and 24 million for james posey? i don't believe it is. hell, we could have just passed on adrian griffin and matched posey's offer. plus, at 6 yrs and 24million, i'd expect james posey to be a starter, garnering 35 mpg. i don't think he's ever earned those type of minutes.

i think we'd be much better served (if we're going to resign posey...which apparently we're considering), trading mobley for a legit pg, moving steve to the 2, and starting:

    PG: tba
    SG: francis
SF: AGruff or Pike (depending on the pg's skills)
PF: griff or motay (depending on who's starting @ SF)
    C: yao

    just my opinion....

I agree with you, Posey is not worth that kind of money.. Jerry West is off his rocking chair for offering it to him.

So the potential trade your speaking of is 1 for 1? Mobley for a pg? Or sign Posey and do a 2 for 1? I personally would like to see cat moved, but don't think it will happen anytime soon.

I don't think the roster will change too much more besides the possible signing with the MLE.

I think there is a few guys out there who the Rockets may be interested in acquiring: Antonio Davis, Alvin Williams, Kurt Thomas, Charlie Ward, Rasheed Wallace, Brian Grant and maybe even Mark Jackson. I expect for the Rockets to acquire one or more of those guys by training camp. Its just a hunch I have.

I assume the reason they're holding off on saying no to Posey is that they want to keep all their options open as long as possible. They don't want to close the book on that early, and the next day have Nachbar and Rice get into a fatal car accident. So, they're just waiting for their option to match to expire on its own.

I expect another signing or 2 (how many guys have we got on our roster, 11?), but no splash. Just min. salary guys who have been in the league for several years.

I hope CD is not sticking it to Memphis because they did not take that pick when we wanted them to, last year.

oh, i'm sure that's part of it, as well. but, i don't see why CD would say they haven't made up their minds yet. why not just say that they will let the 15 day period expire?

Well, right now Memphis screwed up. They're overstocked at the 3, and they need to trade for a 5. I'd guess CD is trying to take advantage of that.

Now, a good scenario for the Rox would be getting something like Watson and Swift for Cuttino. Unfortunately, that doesn't help Memphis enough. They really need to move Wes Person, Lo Wright, or Jason Williams. We could exchange Cato for Lo Wright (2 positions instead of 1) and Cat and Mooch for Person and Watson, or something else. Maybe a three team. Maybe nothing.

Memphis will need to do something, soon if not today.
