    question about the radar detectors..

are the cheaper ones any good, or pretty much are they useless unless you spend the big money on them?

also do they still go off a lot around buildings with alarms etc..

Radar detectors don't work if a State Trooper is sitting there with his radar turned off and nailing you with his laser.

The detector only picks it up AFTER you've been clocked.

I know what you're talking about... I ALWAYS slow down to 30 when I go by the Bayou.

Are you from that area? I live in Hedwig...

Haha. They got me there too when I was in high school. That same spot! That was my first and last (hopefully) speeding ticket. I was going 65 and I think it was a 35. The cop was nice enough to give me a 45 or something considerably lower (I forget), so it wasn't that bad.

I've never seen a consistant speed trap. I have seen cops occasionally waiting under freeways, but never the same one twice.

Maybe I'm just lucky! Although I'll have to start being more careful with a red car...is that rumor true?

Don't worry. You're a chick. Just flirt with the guy and he'll let you off. ;)

Or turn the air conditioner up really high and point the vents to strategic areas on your body.

True if you are the only one on the road. Valentine picks up other cars being hit with laser in fron tof you so you can slow down.

The new seatbelt law makes it even easier to pull over guys, gives them a valid excuse to pull creepy guys over and say "oh, I thought you werent wearing your seatbelt....by the way, stay away from the hookers you perv..oh wait do I smell the presence of alcohol here?"....

Thats a sketchy area. But its near the Wellness Center, so if I wanna go rball with my buddy Geoff, I have to drive by everyone once in awhile and check out the freak scene. Plus there's this middle eastern / chinese spicy food joint over there. Spicy Hunan Halel or something....good.

    2. Shepherd cop from North Shepherd has moved south. New speedtrap....southern side of the Shepherd bridge over Memorial/Allen Parkway. Cop sits at bottom of hill and nails people. Someone put a posterboard saying "Cop on foot with radar ahead" on my street sign (Feagan) to warn people. Awesome.

I did this when I lived in Austin. I used to run by a speed trap every morning on Duval off of 183. 2 motorcycle cops just nabbed speeders left and right. I got sick of it, so finally I bought a special marker and wrote on the back of ALL of my running t-shirts "Cops with radar at railroad tracks!" in HUGE print.

I got many appreciative honks for my remaining months in town.

    That makes sense.

For anyone that lives in Sugar Land, I've seen cops plenty of times sitting at the end of the median on 6 between Settlers Way and Dulles, right in front of the Lazer Zone and that park. Half the time at night they don't have any of their lights on, which I thought was illegal.

Another place they like to sit is at 90 and Murphey, right over the railroad tracks, or in the Lazer Rage parking lot right there.

It's stickers they're getting people for over there on Hillcroft and 59. I've seen them bust people for stickers and maybe seatblets. Usually about 2-4 cops there.

It's probably both. I've always felt that cops are equal opportunists.

Another common location is Bingle southbound between West Little York and 290. They are set up behind one of the big warehouses around 4-6 pm a few days a week.

I've lived in Missouri City and Sugar Land for the last 21.5 years (yes, I've lived in both cities). I very rarely see cops just sitting somewhere, waiting to pull people over. I drive Murphy every day to work every summer. Haven't seen a cop there once the entire summer, or the last summer either now that I think about it. Weird.

Actually, there was a house on the corner of my street that no one was living in. For a while, the cops would sit in the lot next to that house and wait for people speeding down Glen Lakes. That's really the only one I remember.

So are you all saying that HPD and constables use radars while state troopers use lasers? How do you tell? I know some cheap radar detectors that are really good with radars but don't work too well with lasers. I need to figure out which one is best overall for a decent price.

I live in the Sugar Land area and those cops on 6 past the LaserZone are there from usually 11-2. There's also sometimes a cop on Austin Park at night, near the Austin Parkway Elementary, around the same time (11-2).

Oh, and Sugar Land Police are ANAL! They'll pull you over for 3 miles over or coastin through a stop sign...my friend got pulled over because he was driving a Jaguar and he was black...
