If we go into the season with these players who do yall think will start? Yao / cato e.griffin / taylor a.griffin/ rice / nachbar mobley / piatowski franchise / moochie Is this it?
LOL. I was about to bash you cuz you put 2 Griffin's.......... GOD. man.......I go to volunteer for 5 hours and look!!!!!!! I missed a big event! DARN IT> I think you got it mostly right. Except I do think that Mo Taylor may start ahead of Eddie Griffin....there is a possibility. I'd rather have Eddie though. ANYWAYS. I think the best idea for the Rockets is not to have the same lineup every single game. I THINK...that the starting lineup should be determined by who we are facing and matchups and our needs that game. Francis, Mobley, and Yao should almost always start. The other guys don't have to...like when we need a lot of offense and shooting, we put in Piatkowski at small forward. When we need defense, we put in Adrian Griffin. When we need big people....we start Glen Rice and Kelvin Cato. When we need an inside game....we start Taylor.
to start the season... steve cat rice griff yao we hope it soons morphs to ..... steve cat boki griff yao will probably end up..... steve cat griff griff yao
pike won't start the SL will go like this francis mobley A.Griffin Taylor Ming all depends if mobley gets traded or not..
I really hope Taylor starts. I'm not ready to say he'll never be the same after the injury, because pre-injury he was a bonafide NBA starter. Plus, it's time to backtrack on Eddie and develop him more slowly rather than just throwing him into the ring and expecting him to fight. If Taylor truly has recovered from his injury I see him being a much bigger part of our team than most people will expect, and I think JVG is the perfect guy to help him improve in certain areas. My guess: steve cat a. griffin taylor ming
I hope Taylor comes back strong too. Back when we first picked him up, I thought we had made a great acquisition. If he could just get back to his old form, I think we would have a great lineup. Unfortunately, I don't really see this happening; Mo just doesn't seem to have that kind of determination or drive. It seems like he's pretty content where he is, making loads of money off the bench. Plus, I'm pretty sure most fans, as well as Van Gundy, will want to keep starting Eddie and hope he'll soon realize his potential. I sure hope so too. It's hard to win in the PF-heavy west when you have two PFs not playing to their full potential.
Ya know, I go back and forth trying to figure out who JVG will favor in the starting 5, Original Griff or Mo. The case can almost be made for either one. Its a shame we can't morph the two into one player: Eddice Grifflor Athletic, long, can score inside. Can hit the 3. Block shots. THat player will still be a bad rebounder. But the rest is all good!
Steve Cat Griffin Griffin Ming I hope taylor dosent start he lacks way to much on the D his offense is a force to be reckoned with though. We have enough offense with cat steve and ming. I hope to see griffin step up this season with JVG. Has there been any offical news that the rockets have intrest in a backup PG?? Moochi is hard to watch.
The only way I would see Cat going is if we picked up a starting PG and moved Steve to SG. Slim pickens
Steve Cat Grif Grif Yao Well balanced between offense and defense and leaves room for scoring threats off the bench. Not to change the subject, but what were we thinkning when we signed Moochie to his contract Funny I said that before last season about Cato and was so glad when his game picked up.
The things is, even with our two PFs poor rebounding the Rockets finished 6th in rebounds last season because our guards make up for it. So, the rebounding thing with Taylor doesn't really bother me too much. I'm still concerned about his defense, but offensively I've got no qualms. Especially if he can get back to playing the way he has his entire career pre-injury. At times last season he made some shots and moves that you can't help but to admire. A big man with that kind of touch is a beautiful thing to watch. I can't remember exactly, but I think Mo did grumble last year about having to come off the bench, so I wouldn't say he was "content." And you forget that durring the summer of 2001, before he got the injury he had been working his ass off all summer long and in spectacular shape! His injury killed us.
Nice...I think you went over a lot of people's heads. I caught it though... My 2 cents on starters assuming Rice is not traded between now and opening day. 1) Yao Ming and Steve Francis are the only locks to start. 2) If JVG is as smart a coach as the media portrays, Glen Rice will start at SF. The reason is clear...you don't let a veteran of Rice's age get his shot going during the pre-game and let his muscles (and his touch) cool down sitting on the bench. I'm as big a Rice detractor as exists on the board, but if you're going to pay him $9+m/year, get him his shot early and often. If he's on..great. If he's off, you still have Pike and/or you could change the tempo of the game with an Adrian Griffin at SF on O and AG taking the tougher of the 2 or 3 on D. 3) IMO, JVG will choose the starting PF based upon how well they play D. Right now, I would think Eddie Griffin has the inside track but that could change. Especially if Van Gundy wants a PF who posts up. IIRC, MoT was money in the low blocks late last season in Q4. 4) I know many Cat fans will find this hard to take (or even imagine), but I could envision Cuttino not starting (but still getting 36-40 mpg) under JVG. IMO, Cat could be devastating in the final 4 minutes of a game if his body had 30-34 minutes on it instead of 37+. AGriff and Pike allow for that possibility. Anyway, I would still like to see Pike or AGriff with the 1st unit and Cuttino with Cato, Taylor, Boki/Rice and Moochie for a reasonable amount of game time.
