Dear Barack, trying to run-around congress doesn't always work. Glad to see common sense prevail in this battle.

Supreme Court: EPA unreasonably interpreted the Clean Air Act

Washington (CNN)In a loss for the Obama administration, the Supreme Court ruled that the EPA unreasonably interpreted the Clean Air Act when it decided to set limits on the emissions of toxic pollutants from power plants without first considering the costs of the industry to do so.

The Obama administration argued that air pollutants like mercury and arsenic are associated with birth defects, cancer and other risks, especially for pregnant women and children. They say coal and oil fired power plants are the single biggest contributor to mercury contamination of rivers and lakes.

The Clean Air Act directs the EPA to regulate hazardous pollutants from power plants if the regulation is found to be "appropriate and necessary."

The EPA determined it was appropriate to regulate coal and oil fired power plants.

At issue in this case was whether the EPA violated the Clean Air Act when it declined to consider costs in determining whether it was appropriate to regulate hazardous air pollutants.

Why would you cheer dirtier air?

Real common sense would be to end coal burning asap and invest in domestic jobs expanding renewable energy as fast as possible.
Real common sense would be a Congress that put the best long term interest of the people over corporate profits that avoid taxation.

It's unfortunate. But, honestly the war on coal marches on and the generation stack will be getting cleaner with or without MATS.

I love clean air. But there needs to be a common sense approach that doesn't impose harm on the economy to fix it. Obama tried to use the EPA to do his hard work -- Dear Obama, there is no substitute for hard work. Roll up your sleeves and work with congress.

uh, the EPA is supposed to do the hard work for the President. That's their job.

Congress is easily obstructed by Coal lobbyist buying committee votes and
cheaper electricity from coal doesn't begin to offset the real costs to people. It just delays the shift to domestic renewables that can provide the same jobs.

Can't wait for Obama to come out in support of blood being in your body. Maybe those that hate him so much will drain themselves of it.
