NBA TV didn't even mention us as potential landing spots for LMA. SA, LA, Dallas and Atlanta were all mentioned.
Dear Cyber, If DMC is traded to the Lakers, can we all agree that the Lakers have a network of spies and moles? Vlade, I'm looking at you...
Good. Cuz it work out great last time Nash joined the Lakers in recruiting efforts. Worked out great for the Rockets, that is.
How do you know that every team goes through tough times? Duncan has one more year for basketball then he is done. Pop then will have one more year. Can you tell me the coaches that will go to San Antonio?
If LMA is coming to Texas, he wants SA. He was "considering" a sit down with Houston before eventually giving them the time. Houston is just not something that interests him, for whatever reason. He wants SA if he comes back to Texas…or he wants to go to the city he lives in, and play for one of the greatest franchises in sports history…a team that will be a contender in two years.
That was a long time ago. I think he more recently indicated he would probably stay even after Duncan retires.
They have assistant coaches that have been mentored and taught by Pops…they don't need to find their next head coach from the outside, when they have guys that are more than capable already on the team.
LMA is meeting with the Rockets tomorrow night. San Antonio has too many question marks for their future. That is all I am going to say. We had our discussion about LMA last night. Lets just see where he goes.
Pop recently said he intends to continue coaching. His statement about quitting with Duncan was a LONG time ago. All indications are he changed his mind. Why not? He's probably driven by competition and knows he has Leonard on board and a great GM working with him with a great organization. He'll be in intention for a ring every other year (bc that's what the Spurs seems to do).
We have seen plenty of times that head coaches that were under a coach like Pop don't always succeed.
Yeah, and he's also meeting with a bunch of random teams too…Houston is one of them mixed in with Toronto, Dallas, Atlanta, etc… Up until a few days ago, Houston wasn't even on his list.
There have to be half a dozen very successful head coaches in the NBA that learned their craft under Pop. They would probably go with one of their current assistant coaches. But the system is firmly in place. Pop and Buford have seen to that.
Kinda funny that some people simply can't fathom a guy wanting to play anywhere other than Houston. x_x
Just fyi Coach Pop has already indicated he's staying until after the post TD reload, has a new-ish 5 year contract and (mmottola26) you keep including TP in the "group" (2) that are about to retire and he will play a min of 4-5 more years (his words) And, if you flip flop from "we gettin LMA" to "nah just get PG" one more time you will give yourself whiplash. 80% LMA to Spurs. That room where Pop/RC/TD/TP etc sit LMA down is going to have several pounds of championship rings on the table, then just a quick walk to trophy case for all them trophies. As for your 1+1 theory of getting him next year or 2, I think you are forgetting that nearly EVERY team will have loads of space too. Beyond that, it would be near crazy to risk an injury on a short deal like that, and possibly never being at Max level again. He's 30 years old, unlike Jimmy Butler...
How do you know that LMA was not on his list? The media can be wrong. The only person that knows for sure what teams on his list is LMA.
Not pushing anything other than common sense. It would be incredibly difficult for the Rockets to make anything happen, even if LMA wanted to come to Houston…because we would need Portland to comply with us in a S&T. So, first, LMA needs to be more interested in Houston than SA and/or LA (which is not likely)…and second, Portland would have to agree to a S&T that doesn't gut the entire team. Just bc we can throw some names into the pot doesn't mean those are guys the Blazers care about. There have been rumblings that the Blazers don't want any added money to their cap because they want flexibility moving forward. It just makes no sense to think that Houston has more than a 5% chance here.
